last weekend rd 13 I had Surgess as VC and James Graham as C ,

After Sam went big with 98 , I decided to bench Captain J Graham for A Fifita, thinking that I would lose J Grahams points but get my 18th man JJ Felise points 24 .

Logic was that J Graham had to score 62 odd for me to lose any points.

what happened was Sams 98 was doubled to 196 but no auto emergency for either J graham, Hastings or my lowest NPR JJ Felise 24

What was your actual result ? To use the loophole you need to trade your captain to someone who doesn't take the field.  Because you traded to fifita who took the field you mucked it up. What you needed to do was trade jg to npr /bye player. Then you would get ae.
