From a just watching it at a pub standpoint, I would just go straight from work to a bar and watch it in the city.. its prob easier if anything. But as far as actually going to a 6pm game - near impossible

I don't understand why the Broncos don't get more Sunday arvo games. Best day of the week for it IMO, especially for families as they have plenty of time to get all the kids ready and whatnot (plus they can make a day out of it). Average crowd figures would increase also.
Sunday arvo games are best for just about every club.
But Ch9 cares not for families going to games. They just want ratings, and that largely means Broncos on Friday night.
Take round 26 scheduling for example. This round only had its TV scheduling done after the half way point of the year. It was obvious then that Cronulla vs Melbourne would be between 2 of the top sides, and the fact its a genuine minor premiership decider is not a surprise. Ch9 still decided to show Roosters and Souths on Thursday/Friday night, 2 teams that they knew would be out of contention.
Unfortunately for Ch9 they have a terrible top 4. Swap the Cowboys out for the Warriors (or maybe Titans) and they'd have probably the worst top 4 imaginable for them. 4 teams that they almost zero interest in televising play each other. So non-fox subscribers get screwed as the big games stay well away from free-to-air (until finals time when 9's hand is forced)

Obviously the NRL don't care about crowd numbers with the 6PM Friday game (or any other game at times.)Pieman wrote:I was talking crowd numbers mate, not being able to watch the game.
You're missing who the target audiences is here.

And in addition, can't find where you talked about crowd numbers.
Can find reference to ratings (target audience and all that).

The biggest financial hit caused by Monday/Thursday night football would be to season ticket sales
Its hard to justify cost for a ticket if you are one of the non-Ch9 friendly clubs that gets heaps of shitty timeslots.
Fortunately for me Tigers had a good draw this year, and rounds 20-26 that weren't scheduled at season ticket buying time turned out to be scheduled as good as you could hope for
My team is THE channel 9 team, and I find it hard to justify a ticket. 4 Thursday night games this year and only 1 weekend game (a Saturday night game against the nights). I've been a member for 8 seasons now and reckon I have had under 20 weekend games. Hard to justify season tickets for the family with 2 primary schoolers and a 5 hour round trip.
Next year there is a Thursday night game, and a 6pm and 8pm Friday night game, so I can't see it getting any better.

Given the Broncos will jag a fair few of the games in this timeslot, it might become the time I have a wank also

Re: Monday Night Footy
I think there is probably only 3 grounds likely to get a decent 6pm Friday crowd and it's based on people pulling up stumps at work have a beer and head to the ground. So Suncorp, Allianz & Pirtek (but it's closed now).

Channel Nine still get the pick of the games and they'll want the Broncos so you'd better put your wank back to 8pm.Oz Sport Mad wrote:
