Hmm, it would definitely change things, only reason i said no really, was that in years gone by I've tended to have tons of Raiders in my team as we often blooded juniors every year so I found plenty of value in knowing who was worth it and who wasn't. Purely in terms of adding challenge and mixing things up I don't mind it as an idea now that i think about it.
Ok, going along that same vein, I'll throw out an idea inspired by this and the previous discussion about the upside of drafting. What about a league mode where its kind of a cross between being open and the draft. You are free to pick any player you want (within your salary cap), but a player can only be in X% of teams within the league (say 33% or 50%). First come first served in terms of how that is sorted out. The thinking being that it would be easier to start than a draft league as you don't need to organise a draft, just an open date, but you also kind of limit people waiting until team lists are announced for things like the Mcguire example, as other teams may have already locked in the player.
I have no idea how it would work with the salary cap or whether you would have to play it without and actually now that I've typed it out and thought on it, I kind of hate the idea. Oh well.
