My gut instinct is "no, not really", but its not something I've ever given any thought to really. What would be the reason for it? Just for extra challenge during the byes? What sort of limit would you be thinking?

As in NRL Fantasy setting a limit from the offset, making the game more difficult, they used to do it in some versions EPL dreamteams.
I wouldn't do it as a mini game with a side team lol

Just bored in work and considering things they could do to freshen up the game

In super league dream team you can only have 3 players from each club

I looked into ESL DT last year and I don't remember what is was that turned me off it, but maybe that was it. Can you remember how many were playing the comp? Has it opened for this year yet?

Hmm, it would definitely change things, only reason i said no really, was that in years gone by I've tended to have tons of Raiders in my team as we often blooded juniors every year so I found plenty of value in knowing who was worth it and who wasn't. Purely in terms of adding challenge and mixing things up I don't mind it as an idea now that i think about it.

Ok, going along that same vein, I'll throw out an idea inspired by this and the previous discussion about the upside of drafting. What about a league mode where its kind of a cross between being open and the draft. You are free to pick any player you want (within your salary cap), but a player can only be in X% of teams within the league (say 33% or 50%). First come first served in terms of how that is sorted out. The thinking being that it would be easier to start than a draft league as you don't need to organise a draft, just an open date, but you also kind of limit people waiting until team lists are announced for things like the Mcguire example, as other teams may have already locked in the player.

I have no idea how it would work with the salary cap or whether you would have to play it without and actually now that I've typed it out and thought on it, I kind of hate the idea.  Oh well.

It is really crap. There aren't any price changes throughout the year so it gets very boring quick. Quite a lot playing but can't remember exactly. Maybe 20k?? And not opened yet

Club limit not something I would favour.

One thing they probably should do - more to reflect the changes in rugby league than anything else - is separate 2RFs from Locks. So instead of 6 2RFS have 4 2RFS (two playing, 2 reserves) and 2 LFs (like hookers, 1 playing, 1 reserve). In practice a lot of the LFs would be DPP FRFs, but, again, that would be more accurate as a simulation of the actual game.

Working night shift tonight and catching up on all the posts.
Finally had a look at the players prices and decided to put together my first draft.
The salary cap is 8 million this year, right?

This is a change I could get behind. In the modern game edge forwards and middle forwards are so different

I nominate this pos to take Scouters spot in the Ultimate League draft so I can take him down a peg or 30.

.....Strands a fucking wonderful place, screw Disney[s]land[/s]world. The stand is the most magical place on earth.

Who am I kidding... Townsville is awful. Though we do have JT... Singlehandedly a better player than everyone at Cairns, Perth and hell the Knights combined.

Big Jamal has hit the gym hard.

“They asked me what my goal weight would be to play at and I said 115 and at the moment, I’m at 114. That’s before the season even starts. At Penrith, I was playing at about 121.

    “ … when I was at the Dogs I played at 115. I know I’m at my best when I’m at 115.”
