I do think jdb will be a mostly 80 minute player again this year, though im not sure what the dragons draw is like. If they have some day games to start the year, he may get a few 10 min breaks because of the heat, so would be worth checking that out

What's your reasoning then for taking him over say Surgess and pocketing the 40k? Or if it is the POD factor over Surgess who is in many teams then what about the similar priced alternatives in Merrin or PODene Thompson. Not saying don't get JDB just after some of your thinking as the 2rf gun is one of my tossing points trying to pick my team
I reckon start with Surgess, wait til after origin, then bring in a POD for the remainder of the season

NYC Team of the Year in the centres last year and will likely debut somewhere in the season if almost anyone in the backline gets injured and could start if they see him to be fitter than Bryson Goodwin.

thinking similar vein to you chewie. I'm picking a big year for Merrin so will look to him to close out the season as a POD option, and having Surgess from the start lets you know what you are going to get and if he does have a big year you aren't having to try find the cash and trading material.

Thanks Beepbeep. I've seen his name pop up a few teams, I just figured he was a cheap NPR. I guess he's a bit more than that
And also a belated welcome to the forum!

Re: 2017 NRL.com Fantasy thread Part 3
IF Farah is up to being a gun again (or close to it) and is overlooked for origin THEN you can do some pretty cool POD things with your TEAM.
HOK; Farah // King
FRF; J.Bromwich // McGuire // Hoare // Gubb
2RF; S.Burgess // Harris // B.Thompson // Hess // F.Pritchard // Stimpson
HLF; Norman // Taylor // Hingano // Brown
CTR; S.Mataúita // Idris // Olive // Scott
WFB; Gutherson // Tuivasa-Sheck // Hayne // Phynthian // R.Jennings
Much better to focus on as many permanent POD guns as possible, who are not too origin affected, particularly and the forwards, and then only use low priced cash cows in the other spots, who can be replaced easily.
Particularly interested in an assessment of how likely it is that Hoare // Gubb // Hess // Pritchard // Stimpson will rise in dollars quickly.
So many people put down nuffie, without much thought put into it, but as cash earners, they are a super important part of your team.

Surgess is likely to be on of the most owned players in Fantasy. Basically if you do what the rest of the pack does it will get you a nice ranking probably in the top 1000 but you are no shot at winning it. There are plenty of alternatives to Surgess(before the byes) with the options I'm considering being Gallen, Mannering and JDB simply for POD factor. If the trials/charity shield shows JDB is likely to play big minutes again I will lock him in. He averaged 67 in games he played 80 minutes at lock. When playing at 65 at lock he averaged 67 aswell. Of his 6 scores of 70+ only 2 were 80 minute games with the rest coming in 76, 60, 73 and 66 minutes. Basically I don't see him losing any value with a whole lot of upside and is a legitimate POD.

The best times to make up ground are early in the year and after origin. It's very hard to make any more than 50 points a week after Origin

Can't fault that reasoning mate. Looks like i need to find myself 40k somewhere and see how I like a tinkered team of JDB vs my current one with Surgess

What happened to JBrom last year? Minutes seemed to stay similar throughout the year but rounds 1-11 he averaged 54 and rounds 12 onwards he averaged 48. Anything I missed there?

Rabbits have a pretty good start. R5-8 will test them out though.
Anyone taking byes into account this early? I did two years back and did well - 108th. Didn't last year....shithouse. I'm doing some study this year. Seeing if I can favour the Eels, Rabbits, Storm, Roosters, Sharks, Bulldogs who seem to have the best byes. They all play at least 2 of the big 3, and Souths/Eels, all three.
So far, these are guys I've got my eyes on - Farah, Cherrington, King ( I am going off him), Croft (Storm), Brown, S.Burgess, Butcher, Fogarty (Eels), Norman, Pearce, R. Jennings, Holmes, Ado Carr, Walker, French. might put them into a team and see what I can put around them

If Munster is at fullback I prefer him over Teddy to start the year. If he is in the centres or half its an easy trade to make

Re: 2017 NRL.com Fantasy thread Part 3
I really don't like investing much time in picking players based on draw, I mean it's a new season, there are always a few teams which no one expects which start the season much better than previously advertised. Also I have rarely seen fantasy scores being badly affected by guys having tough opposition, wingers potentially but who picks then these days anyway, I just don't see how the draw should affect thinking, guns like Tedesco can get points against anyone

Don't forget idris is listed as $148k on test site. You potentially have more coin if that's the casemultiple.scoregasms wrote:
