McCullough/Peats are cheaper with just as much potential

And Smith paired with cheapie (King/Ballin/Mortimer) would also be pretty common.

I can't see the sense in picking Mcinnis if Havili is going to be there stealing a chunk of minutes.

I'm going back to my first thought as a backup hooker in Koro. If Lewis Brown stays away he could play 80.

IMO Gurgess is the best option around 300k. He had a down year due to injury last year, simple as that. If he looks the goods in the Charity Shield then he will be locked into my team as we know his Fantasy scoring potential. Below 250k? I would personally say TPJ. He will see increased minutes this year and will make cash some cash of that I am sure. Watch his minutes during the WCC and decide for yourself however like Gurgess if he shows that potential in the next trial TPJ will also be locked into my squad.

Not a fan. Hastings will be there after he has recovered from his injury/op or whatever it was.

    you're forgetting jackson hastings.

McInnes only worthwhile if theres no bench hooker. Havili not named for the charity shield is promising.

The match will hopefully give a good indication of where both Mcinnes and Gurgess are at.

I was completely off Gurgess but if hes strong in the shield it will be hard to say no due to lack of other options. The reports about Gurgess in the last few weeks have been pretty conflicting.

People obsess a lot about the presence/absence of bench hookers.

But IMO, unless you have Smith or Lichaa you have to be prepared to accept your hookers sharing time.
Sure there may be no bench hooker in round 1, but there may be one on an extended bench, or one might appear in round 2.
If you're hooker is *only* useful if they play 80 minutes every week, then you are treading a fine line.

Thanks boys, yes I did forget about Hastings.  Back to the old drawing board. Kaysa nice and cheap at 185 if he can cement something.

I like Macca but you know Niko is taking minutes off him.

People saying they won't be going with Hingano based on him only getting 2 games. So who do you go with? The next cheapest half that is looking to actually get decent game time (so excluding Nu Brown and Hampton) is Elgey, who a lot of people a) are running as their 3rd half anyway and b) don't want in their 17. So are people going to put another mid priced half in? Why not just play Hingano, hopefully get a bit of a price rise, and let him sit as a placeholder until the next Cleary comes along?

The way people are talking about their hookers reminds me very much of myself looking at buying utes.

I mean I know the 76 Landcruiser is the best option, it has everything I want. But shit its expensive. Maybe I can buy a ute that is much cheaper, and still do the same thing. The answer is no.

YOure not going to get a cheap hooker that is in the game for 80mins. Okay that came out wrong. Youre not going to get a cheap hooker that is going to fully satisfy you and your team.

If im not going Smith, ill be looking at Hodgson. Baptise is out for a while, even if they play a second hooker Hodgson just shifts into back row. Plus with talk of him taking leadership position in Croker's absence. He is surely going to see more minutes on the park not less. But he is no Smith. And wont ever be.

    I like the Hodgson pick.

Any love for Te Maire Martin if he gets the six jersey?

Based on Flanagan's comments Nu Brown might be an option if Seggy doesn't materialise.

I don't think its essential to run with 25 starters. having 1 cheapie NPR can be useful as it gives you cash, loophole possibilities.
Even better if he's DPP - so maybe Jamal Fogerty.

Another reason for starting Hingano is that he might do a Cody Walker -be named for round 1 only, but then due to injuries end up playing a tonne of games and making heaps of cash. A bird on the field better than 2 in the stands.

He doesn't kick and Cleary is too dominant

I had been running with Smith & King/Brailey as my hookers up til now - shuffled a bit to see how McInnes/Hodgson looks:

    McInnes, Hodgson (R)
    Fifita (C), Daifiti, Gurgess (R), Wallace (R)
Surgess, McGuire, ET, Mata'utia (R), Capewell, Stimson
    Norman, Lamb, Elgey, Hingano
    Idris, Kelly, Scott, Olive
    RTS, Hayne, Phythian, Rennings, Drew

Played on the edge first game last season for 3pts iirc

TMM relies on attacking stats & with the Panthers opening draw it should suit him.

Liking this team I came up with if Kaysa gets the gig. I think I'll have to sacrifice BJ to get a be more overall depth.

    Smith (Pritchard)
    Fifita Saifiti (Gurgess Hoare)
Surgess McGuire Smat (Lane Leilua Capewell)
    Lamb Carty (Elgey Hingano)
    Walker Idris (Scott Kelly)
    RTS Hayne Holmes (Uate Rennings)

    All with 69K spare
