That's kind of his point though, Smith's historical success doesn't really inform us of his current standing relative to other players this season.

Tom on 32 at HT is solid. JDB looking like a good captain option for those like myself who lost Smith and don't have Mannering.

Quite a few people are criticising the rookie fantasy players for getting lucky by not following "Rule #1". I am a rookie player and ultimately decided to finish the year without Smith. This was because he has shown this year that he's just not as reliable as he has been in previous years. There are other players on the same level this year that make him not as necessary as he was in the past. I think a lot of longer term players are blinded by past years instead of what is actually happening this year.

I "got lucky" by choosing Crichton as my captain this week. I did so because I took the time to look closely at his scores, and as Vanish mentioned, his lowest score since he's been starting (a 11 game sample size) is 54, with an average over 70. But it's probably just because I'm a rookie who got lucky because I don't know what I'm doing.

Basically, since this is your first year, you wouldn't know how Smith has been by far the best and most consistent fantasy player by a mile.

Zora is using the word rookie loosely, second or third season.

In response to Zora, Cam actually has been as reliable as ever. Take away this week and he was averaging close to 65 from memory and only one score under 50 (47) in Round 1.

The decision by manly to rest players is bizarre. They were sixth before this game and now in danger of dropping further if they dont beat the storm next week (though they may have gotten lucky with smith and slater unlikely)

If they won this game by 12+ they finish the round in 3rd

Glad I changed my tip upon seeing the updated team lists however I didn't think that Manly were going to perform this poorly.

2nd season, but only my first real season as not much could be done last year when I didn't understand the concept of a cash cow when selecting my original team with 12 Sharks players in it.

In terms of reliability, I was referring to how everyone said that Smith always backs up after Origin, but this year he didn't. How he never gets injured, but this year he's had a few injuries.
When he plays he has still scored well, there's no denying that. But he has played a lot less than he usually would, which is where the doubt about his reliability has come from. Which is what made a few 'rookies' consider that perhaps he's not quite the same level of fantasy God he once was.

Yep, got you now, sorry. I thought you meant scores wise. Yes, he has been different this year in regards backing up. The funny thing is, I reckon every year for the last 5 years a lot if us thought that particular year would be the year he would get rested. It never really happened, but yes, Winter has finally come this year.

It's amazing when you see a team with a sense of injustice get all fired-up and raise their game ..... that's how they should be starting every game though!

Manly play better with 12 than they do with 12 + Darcy Lussick.

    Is anyone really surprised?
