Aus Kick is a staple of pe classes for the same reasons
Same with soccer
and rookies to reds etc
As a sport outside of schools though - Netball would certainly have the most young girls registered and playing IMO, not touch
Getting in at school level though is certainly a way to target girls who want to go down the elite RL path.
I watched a fair bit of womens union when I lived in brissy, was a pretty bloody strong comp. They would be doing well to get some cross over from the girls who play, as a fair chunk would be keen to play both imo
