I must say I have had an absolute ball triggering Bulldogs fans on social media with some quality trolling.
The IQ level of most of them is not very high.

He ran backwards the ball hit his left open palm closest to goal line and propelled the ball in to his right wrist closest to half way line then the ball changes direction again off his wrist backwards. It's such a clear cut knock on right in front of refs. The one-eyed Broncos fans saying it was knocked back is tedious. I'm forever saying my team got away with a missed call if it looks that way
"A knock-on is committed when, in an attempt to play at the ball, a player knocks the ball towards their opponents' dead ball line with their hands or arms and it touches either the ground, or an opposing player. However, the ball may be knocked back."
just sayin'

@Chewie agreed. I was took the ground as the reference point, not the player

Its an interesting one which I'd like to know the answer too.
IMO the ball goes towards his own try line after he touches it
BUT
The ball goes forward off his hand (its because his momentum is going back that the ball, despite going forward off his hands, ultimately goes towards his own try line).
So does that mean its a knock on or not? I see a bit of a grey area in the rule stated above.
Namely "the ball may be knocked back" part. So what about if the ball gets "knocked forward" (of the player who touches it) but goes back due to the momentum of the player.
Fun times - the call definitely impacted on the game though IMO cause the Broncos scored on the next play.
I feel a bit sorry for the dogs to be honest. I think they did enough to win that one and got hard done by. Regardless of the letter of the law (which is still unclear to me at this point), what happened with Isaako 99 times out of 100 gets called a knock on (the reaction of Isaako said it all really), if that call goes there way, I don't think they lose that game!

But this goes against the forward pass rule. If you take the ground as a reference point there would be a ton more forward passes called. Its the momentum of the players which is taken into account with passes, and thats why a pass is legitimate, so long as it goes backward out of the hand, even if it goes forward using the ground as a reference point.
If you apply that way of thinking to knock ons then Isaako's should have been called as such. But is that how the rule is written? I don't know, it seems a bit ambiguous to me.

The knock on rule hasn't been interpreted according to the actual rule for years, it's like watching touch footy at times.

@Rippin and Tearin As I understand it, passing takes momentum into account and is treated differently to a knock.

Maybe every fumble under the highball in your own half should be treated as a knock on?

You're backing me up.
Knocks ball towards opponents dead line with left palm into right wrist then it touches the ground.
Can't understand why people are struggling to interpret the rules

Same back 3 here. I'm trying to time it for when the price gap between Thompson and TTrbo is at its lowest, and make the switch then.
Other options are Rapana or RTS and hope they get back to their best

The rule is on p22. There's nothing in there about a knock on being treated any differently to a forward pass.

The ball does go backwards though - it goes towards his own in goal. He is just moving in the same direction faster than the ball is.
"its a knock on every day of the week" is also true. The way it is reffed in rugby league, it should have been called.

Forward passes are treated relative to the momentum of the player
Knock-ons are treated relative to the ground.
I thought Isaako's went backwards. Quite often those sort of things are called knock-ons though, so he was a little lucky in that sense to get away with it

OK cool - if thats the case then its not a knock-on. But to me the rule as stated above is ambiguous because in order to determine if something goes forward, you need a reference point IMHO.

if this is the case, then technically and officially, the call was correct.
Again - the way it is generally reffed, it should have been called. But thats just another grey area in the NRL that leads fans to pick and choose what suits them when having a whinge.
Doggies fans should just face the fact that if they'd had gotten the ball, they'd have taken 5 hit ups at the try line then died on the last tackle.

@Loomer if I remember correctly, it lands further from the opposition dead ball line when it lands. Disclaimer, I only watched it twice last night
