Two weeks after last years N.R.L. Grand Final an email was sent from the bowels of the N.R.L..
"Dear Fiona and your team,
Thank you for your previous efforts in discouraging many people from playing fantasy football. You did drop the ball a little by nearly achieving a good product by the end of this year.
We need to shake things up again now. Lone Scout is such a pain and we are just totally sick of him in our offices. As you know we can't get rid of him because his contract says that while there are more than 10,000 players in fantasy he has a job. We will pay you well if you help get rid of him and we don't really care about this fantasy football stuff anyway.
So we would politely suggest that next year you change everything, literally. Maybe get rid of the Captains loophole to indicate progress but then introduce other loopholes. Two would be good and that would make plenty of players unhappy and hopefully they just loose interest.
Players love their statistics so maybe no match center to start the year with?
Once you launch an inferior product you could pretend to show you are making efforts to improve it. Then introduce a glitch or two to make more players give up.
Maybe in the lead up to the week before the first bye round is a good time to introduce a major problem. Stuff everyone's scores and head to heads around. This is when players are thinking really hard about how to set up their teams and so it's a good chance to make some more players angry enough to stop playing.
You've previously shown you are up to this task and we really need to get Lone Scout out of the building.
Thanks in advance
