On the topic of meeting randoms off the internet. I remember when I lived in Brisbane in the Sportal days and my house mate, who owned the house, was watching the Union so in advance I asked one of the Sportal lads if I could watch the league with them and I'll buy the beers at theirs. Dudes name as Garth and barely ever posted and had an amazing apartment near mine but never posted on Sportal again afterwards. There was no murder involved but I've always worried people thought I killed him.
