Im leaning towards trading out Ponga with the view to getting him back. This with 4 trades after making one in round 18. Am i an idiot?

Would you he happy with these trades if it meant keeping Ponga?
Fonua > Lewis (cashout)
Tuala > Holland (WFB/CTR cover after Ponga returns)
Harris > Tapine (a gut punt)
Cleary > SJ (no need for explanation).

No, sounds like a good plan.
Will you be able to get Ponga back in 1 trade? or is there a chance you might need to downgrade someone for cash?
Ponga should drop cash in his comeback game, and you'll probably want to give him a week to make sure he is OK, so hopefully it all works smooth

Re: 2018 NRL.com Fantasy Thread Part 58
Calculated that Tapine would have scored 54* from his usual 80 last week (*rough calculation)
So that gives him a six round average of 59.
Have to hope he can keep that up to end the season.

Re: 2018 NRL.com Fantasy Thread Part 58
From my round 1 team I have;
Smith, Cook, Teddy, Ponga and Arrow. Technically Griffin too.
How detrimental would it be to have no decent 18th man? Going James this week pretty much cancels out my ability to have a decent 18th man. With trades this week and getting rid of JFH next week for Farah my team would be;
Smith
Fifita Taupau
Arrow Tolo Crichton
ARey SJ
Mitchell Marsters
Teddy Ponga MBye
Cook James Martin Farah
Holland Lewis Mann Doueihi
Cutting it too fine? Would still have 7 trades. Other thoughts next week though is to trade James for Farah and upgrade Mann to Surgess, if he doesn't give me value for my money this week.
I think though I probably should go an Aitken this week allowing Surgess and Farah trade ins next week though so I have cover and a final team already set with an 18th man in Mitchell or Aitken. But that forward pack just looks too good.

Yeah, seems like a good plan, in theory, until there are two more injuries to guns in round 18
I've done the math, and can get him back in one trade with some room for flexibility (drop) in price with my current players. I agree with giving ponga a week once he's back as well.
If I get in Aitken (or Cotric) this week, then it would probably be Hoppa to make way for Ponga when he returns.
The other option this week is RTS, but then that means to get Ponga back, it would have to be Mbye or RTS who I trade out for him.
Just makes me nervous only leaving 3 other trades outside that plan for round 18 onwards.
The other option is to keep the two trades, and just play Holland. Bit worried about numbers for round 18 assuming some origin players are going to be rested, especially Mitchell.
If the Knights drop a couple more games over the next 3 weeks though, there will be no reason for them to rush Ponga back with the season gone.

Cheers mate, my gut calls have been poor this year so hoping Hodgson can put the boy through some gaps and he can manage a 50+ average

Would anyone consider Milf over SJ?
Or is that an option only if you can't afford?

It's a risky move but could pay off. However ask yourself with so few trades left can you afford to waste 2 of them buy doing a sell/buy-back. I've tried this in the past with low trades (usually with Smith) & what happens is you suddenly get a couple of injuries & then you realise you can't buy him back.

Re: 2018 NRL.com Fantasy Thread Part 58
My round 1 squad was:
Smith (c)
Scott, Lodge
NBrown, Arrow, RFM
Croft, Croker (wtf was I thinking!?!?)
Inglis, Hayne
Ponga, Tedesco, Dufty
Cook, Cartwright, Nicholls, LLeilua (forgot to change him out before lockout)
Havili, Kikau, Kennar, Katoa
...
So Arrow, Smith, Ponga, Tedesco and Cook have never left my team.
Inglis was traded after he broke his thumb.

Special mention to Brown who i held for four weeks while injured, traded out, then got back again in round 13.
Had RFM as well in round 1 who only went last round due to injury.
Started round 1 with Bryce Cartwright in my halves

Anthony Gelling has signed a two year deal with Widnes, will leave Warriors at seasons end.

Defence is suspect. No great loss

@Loomer - no offence but whenever I see a new post from you I expect player X or Y to be called a spud. I have a little smile then read the post only to be disappointed recently. Gelling is a spud, right?

I wasn't the one that said Holland with no goal kicks is spud territory. As Warriors fan I think Gelling defence is suspect. Is that not allowed?

Re: 2018 NRL.com Fantasy Thread Part 58
I considered Gelling to be a spud based on that poor cameo but then he played 80 minutes the next game I think & I thought he was one of the Warriors best. Then last week he scores a good try & played well. Now I don't know why he's leaving.

Holland looks like a spud, but his services are required.
Who knows he may even keep Ponga on the pine when he returns.

Re: 2018 NRL.com Fantasy Thread Part 58
Gelling has adequately covered injuries in the first team as he was signed to do.
He'll go well back in the super league, as he did before we signed him.
Saying he's "no great loss" is a bit obvious. He's a reserve grader. He's leaving because he probably wants more than a base contract and he'll get that in England.
