I thought there were some questionable calls in the Storm - Warriors game last night, but they seemed to go both ways. Repeated slow-motion views from multiple angles allow people, media and the video ref to scrutinize every single decision an on-field ref makes. I think it's a real blemish on sports in general.
Referees are not going to make every single call possible throughout a game. Refs are going to miss calls or make wrong calls. The pressure these guys are on is so immense I give my hat to them. The more and more we break these calls down and break every single play down we are going to find blemishes. You will find blemishes in every single sport by doing this. It is great that we are able to implement technology into the game and bring it into todays times but the more and more the media and fans boil over a bad/missed call. Yes I get angry when a call isn't made but it's the game. Move on. We are becoming to demanding of the game and this is introducing more and more grey areas into the rules. The sooner we can just let the game be the game and let the refs ref the better. Two years ago the refs weren't calling enough so last year they cracked down and were calling more then everyone complained and this year they're calling less and people are complaining and instead of telling people to move on the NRL are just dropping those refs (resulting in so much pressure to make the call that if you make the wrong one you get dropped) or the media are blowing it out of proportion. The ref can only call what is in front of them, they don't have a birds eye view of the game, they have players running all around them, they have the crowd feeding them all game. That pressure is just
I love this game and will watch every single game no matter what but the way some people behave over this sort of thing is why this game will never grow outside of Australia and New Zealand.
