No brainer unless you really love going there every day

I do genuinely love my job but wouldn't say no to an extra day for activities.

I might actually be above par at golf!

100% I would do it mate, just to get to take the boy to school and pick him up once a week would be worth it for me!

I don't drive, so catch bus back and forth work! Way the bus goes I used to leave work 10 mins early to make sure I caught it, did so for 3 years (in work 30 mins early to cover) someone complained I wasnt working "standard hours" and now I have to work 3 hours extra 1 hour extra Tues-Thurs (catch later bus) all this to allow me to leave early (only 10 mins) on Monday and Friday so i can get home in time for my sons football/rugby/cricket training.

Been here 8 years, absolute shit show! anyway, got my proviisonal license and ill be passing and leaving now, fuck em

Yeah I don't even have the kid/s yet, but the free time or long weekend clearly wouldn't go astray.

I don't know what you do, but a lot of people work close to 10 hour days anyway (especially in accounting/finance work) where its sort of expected and you don't get paid overttime

Anyone in that situation should definitely try and get it sorted officially so they only do their 40 hours a week.

I don't have a set schedule for when I have time off.
Originally I had it for looking after my kids. Rather than go officially part time I just organised a bunch more leave and took it off when required. Luckily I have management that are happy with this approach. Kids are both at school now so the need for me to have so much leave is lessened, but I am used to having the time off so haven't bothered going back to regular working hours.

Yeah currently 37.5 hours without an Rdo or 40 hrs with. I'd be putting the 37.5 into 4 days, so effectively 10 hour days, half hour break. Very flexible and licky it seems. Work at home could also come into play in the coming years. Any hours over those are OT, which is often available.

Sounds like a gud setup u have Milch.

When I first started at my job, we did 8 hour shifts. After many years I went to 9.5 hour shifts. Presently I’m working 12 hour shifts. Our roster is worked over a 6 week period where you have to work 228 hours (19 shifts).
9.5 hour shifts was the pick of the lot.
I work shift work and weekends/public holidays so it’s not as simple as a 3,4 or 5 day week

I'm stuck in one of those places Milchy mentioned with the 50 hour + weeks, plus I need to be available for extra work days on weekends with travel away. No overtime. Urgh. They rave about flexible work conditions but they're full of shit and this is not a thing they would ever consider.

I've always wondered what ur job is, some of ur descriptions have me thinking u were a ranger or out digging up fossils scratch

Definitely would take it. Having to change careers and head into an office environment due to my latest surgery and them having found osteoarthritis throughout both my shoulders at 33 years old. Would like your setup though Razz

Take what you can if conditions suit mate.  It's hard to find something like that these days with good conditions.  I work 5 days a week sometimes 12 hours a day.  In busy periods I can work 7 days up to 80 hours with only a fraction at overtime unfortunately so it's tough and would love a job with set hours that calls for no extra time needed.  As Jimmy said too, make sure you can do the role in the hours and days.

Don't let 10 hour days turn into 11 and 12 hours.  You start doing that it won't end and expectations and workload increase.  Just make sure the role you do can be achieved in that 4 day timeframe without your productivity and output dropping.  If you can go for it.

I did 9 hours a day, 9 day fortnight in the previous gig. Was really good for family time.

But it was only possible because the job was lightweight. In the current role if I tried that I’d be making up weekend time. Be really careful of 10/4 turning into 11/4.5 .....

But totally worth it if you can be confident of holding the time!

Nah this is structured, all legit and either yes or no.

About 10-15 years ago comm bank were having trouble keeping their young graduate employees so they offered what I thought was an awesome deal. It was a 5 year deal but you only worked 4 years then got a full year off paid leave to travel etc.

No fossils, but the ranger thing is pretty close. Only they're government so they get paid a lot more to work a lot less than me.
I'm in consulting, work about 50/50 office/field doing what I suppose can be summarised as compliance monitoring. Usually in remote places doing very physical work over really long days.
The field half of the job would actually be really great if I actually got paid for all the work I do, as its a lot of 4wding and hiking to beautiful places that other people go to for fun. Though it's better at some times of year than others. Today I spent 11 hours working outside where the warmest temperature at saw was 4 degrees.

Go self employed. Find a niche. Dominate it through digital marketing. Good website, Facebook page, google adwords and excellent service. Fuck working for the man.

My niche was Clawfoot bath restoration. No one else wanted to do it, because it’s hard. So I did. 60-80 hours a week, plenty of mistakes while learning the craft.

20 years later, life’s good. Own home on acreage, with pool. No debts. I still do the odd restoration job from home if I’m bored with golf, fishing, camping.

    Find a niche.
