Re: NRL Fantasy 2020 Part 6
6 Things we learnt from the Nines:
1. Referees blunders are still very much going to be changing the results of games (and sometimes entire tournaments) in 2020
2. Thanks to a Sims broken arm, Host or Lawrie is about to get a blockbuster sequel: Host or Lawrie 2: Judgement Day
3. Every member of the forum claims they had been quietly sitting on Drinkwater and is now upset that every other member of the forum who also has claimed to have always had Drinkwater is now going to bring in Drinkwater (btw guys, Drinkwater had been in my team since day dot...)
4. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow is a development player and cannot be in your fantasy team (just to stop the hundred people inevitably asking when their new $228k starting WFB that will leave them the cap space to buy Haas is)
5. Haas didn't break a single tackle. And if he can't break a tackle in the Nines then he certainly won't in the 13-man game. And if he can't break tackles, he can't score well in Fantasy. Everyone should immediately take him out of your teams and never look back on the decision no matter what he does in the other trials.
6. The Nines is an absolute Micky Mouse competition. The Rabbitoh's only accolade was beating the very worst team in the Nines comp and yet made the finals whilst the Sharks, Sea Eagles and Tigers missed out despite being far better teams; Dragon's women win 1/3 games, make the GF because somehow the others did even worse, but get up against the Broncos chasing their 4th straight win.

I am going to wake up in the middle of the night having cold sweats about Host and Lawrie again.
I also totally deserve the shot re. Drinkwater.

I could be missing something but I’m not really getting how the Dragons 5th best middle forward fracturing his arm makes anyone else more fantasy relevant?

Averaged 35 minutes last season that now get split between other players. An extra 10 mins per game makes a player much more relevant.

But the Dragons won't be playing with 16 - they'll have someone selected to replace him.
And Merrin played 0 minutes last season and will take up a fair chunk of any extra minutes.

Sweet and sour news for @NRL_Dragons. Ramsey is a future star with most tries and named in team of the tournament yet McInnes (knee), Sims (arm) and Dufty (cheekbone) all in doubt for round one. @telegraph_sport

Re: NRL Fantasy 2020 Part 6
Too many beers over the weekend to give too much of a detailed take on anything game specific.
Instead I'll give the advice that making any fantasy decisions from a preseason tournament in what is essentially a different sport is a terrible idea.
My team of the tournament aka must haves
1. Scott Drinkwater
2. Cody Ramsey
3. Tex Hoy
4. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow
5. Mitchell Moses
6. Tyrone Peachey
7. Villiame Kikau
8. Kurt Gidley
9. David Gower
Honorable mentions:
Hess, Metcalf, Whitbread, Arrow, Cleary

Yes I actually did go with Host, wasn’t a good choice.Mulvy wrote:
You're obsessed with the minutes. Last year, if you were making your decision based on minutes you would have chosen Host instead of Lawrie, and you would have been disappointed.
Yes you’re right I’m obsessed with minutes especially in the forwards.
If they don’t get the minutes then it’s obviously gonna affect their scores quite often.
Last season I didn’t look at PPM as much but this season I sure am.

mattnz wrote:When is the last time that a side made significant improvements in 6 positions in a season, including 3 of their spine?
Cowboys have done it this season with:
Holmes
Drinkwater
Robson
Marsters
Hess (2020 fit, keen version instead of 2019 crap version)
HTF
Throw in Lolo and Morgan and they have a strong team.
Paying $19 to win the comp and $2 to make the 8.
Your 6 significant improvements include a guy who joined the club 12 months ago, a guy who doesn't have a first grade contract, and a guy who has been with the club for ages but just played a couple good games of glorified touch football.
Valentine Holmes is certainly talented, although it remains to be seen how quickly he'll adapt after a year out of the game.
After that you are left with a new centre and a bench hooker.
So I suspect that plenty of teams have improved their 17 that much over the course of a season.

Cameron Smith played in a charity cricket game last week, are we going to rate his fantasy abilities on that?

I think you'll find he is a has-been in the NRL. Crueled by a rolled ankle that kept him out of training for two days, Broncos are trying to offload him to Catalans at the moment but Catalans wont take an injury riddled plodder
