Rather than post a draft team which looks similar to everyone else's I though I might share a few thoughts to date based on position
Hooker : Had CM9 in there with Api, BBrailey and Mann on the bench.
Replaced CM9 with Friend and it looks a lot more rosy financially. I also think he will make money if he stays fit but am worried about bridging the $ gap to the top tier with Verills lurking
I have just tried a draft with CS9 and have nearly convinced myself.
I am unconvinced by Mann but, putting aside personal bias, there is value there if he gets a full time gig.
FRF : Have had Haas to date with one of the usual suspects (knight, molo, merrin etc) but can't shake the feeling that, while he will finish the #1 prop, he will drop around $100k in the first few weeks.
It could be risky to leave him out and you will need a solid strategy to get him in as soon as he starts hitting his BE.
If Carrigan gets a crack at lock I am willing to take a punt as he was great for me as an 18th man at the back end of last season
2RF : Love the look of Tolo but past experience has shown he can throw in a 30 every now and then at the start of the season (or get injured) so if you pick him don't forget you are in for the long haul, he also plays 12.
The other options have been discussed at length but..... I am very wary of Souths forwards for the first couple of weeks because who knows WTF Bennett is thinking and Cowboys forwards because they never seem to be relevant at the end of the day (Tolo excepted).
Would love Stimson to get a starting gig and I think/hope TLT will throw up some food for thought at the knights and sharks.
Halves : Cleary/Moses one mid ranger (see fullbacks) and Luai (again am unconvinced by Mann). Croft will make money if the broncos can start winning but who knows
Centres : Would love Capewell /Widow to get a starting consistent 2RF gig but again history has shown many many false dawns.
I like Burns, if he can stay together, and Lomax purely because of the lack of DPPs kicking around.
Any rookie centres will be rubbish (unless playing in another position) but we will all have one
WFB : 3 of Papy / Drinkwater / Douehi / Brimson. Will need to be prepared to upgrade these dudes to the top tier as soon as they start to stall (hopefully Papy excepted but 2nd year syndrome is probably more of a thing for backs)
Would love to have TTurbo but am very concerned about the lack of forward strike power Manly will have at the start of the season and the fact he is made of glass.
First year I won't start with Teddy for a while.
Bench : The hookers mentioned above, Luai and any low to midrange forwards who pick up a start on TLT
I am looking for the mythical base price WFB/CTR DPP who starts as back coverage and remember kids don't load your bench with backs.
I also anticipate picking Host not Lawrie, wasting lots of trades on rookie halfbacks and wingers and getting lucky by accidentally picking a forward who starts to gun halfway through the season (Rhys Martin, D. Fifita, AFB).
Good on you, one and all
