How many final 17 players do you have?
I have 13 after trades this week
so I need 4 trades for upgrades (to keep it simple). I'd usually look at 5 so I can squeeze in a boom/bust cheaper 18th man for looping (Latrell perhaps). Noting that in my 13 I've assumed I'm holding Grant, Drinky (dpp cover) and the shit show at CTRs.
How many trades to you have? How many are needed for upgrades? How many left for cash gen and injuries?
If I used all 4 trades this week I'm left with 18. 4 of these will be needed for the above^ upgrades.
This leaves 14 trades for cash gen and covering injuries.
Who needs upgrading and where is the cash coming from?
I work in columns - usually a list of 'upgrade' players (better cows, likely in my 17) while 'cash gen' players are slower burn 18-21.
Example (if I execute my current planned trades this round)
UpgradesKatoa
Mann
Luai
Papy
Cash genWiliame
Rudolf
Paix
WaltersWho do you want in your final team that you don't already have?
My listCleary (or Munster/DCE)
Ponga or Tedesco (depending on what I do this week)
Cook
Taumalolo (
if I trade him out or dpp Twal, fallen Jurbo etc)
Some calcs are needed - essentially an estimate of where the 'upgrade' players will peak and what price point the final 4 players can be traded in. My estimate is that I need just over $1m of cash gen from my slow burners and future cows.
Example, I think I can squeeze around $0.6m out of Wiliame, Paix, Rudolf and Walters. Trading at a fairly conservative peak to new cows at ~$250k each. Thats 4 trades to get them out.
Check point: 10 trades remaining to make $0.4m and cover injuries.... (noting I put aside the trades required for upgrades)
This is the time (maybe round 10) where I’ll strongly consider killing a position for looping. So, from the above 4 trades used I’ll now have 3 new cows to make the $0.4m and one red dot. 3 trades needed to cash these out when they peak.
Check point: 7 trades remaining. Final 17 complete. Likely by round 16ish.
Summary team progression:
*Now: 18 trades, 13 keepers, 4 needing upgrades, 4 for cash gen
**Round 9/10: 12 trades (less any needed for injuries), 15 keepers, 2 needing upgrades, 3 for cash gen, 1 dead spot (maybe $150k bank)
***Round 15/16: 7 trades (less any needed for injuries), 17 keepers, 3 cheapies for cover, 1 dead spot (maybe some cash for an 18th man)
If things are on track (cash gen, injuries etc) I’ll likely use a trade or two to land an 18th man on the cheap (Latrell or someone to cover a position if I'm short).
So really that leaves ~5 for injuries across the season. That’s really tight. Also, there is a heavy reliance on cows showing up at the right time. Or having to flex by using bank to ride a mid pricer up $150k. The $s have to come from somewhere - it doesn't matter where!
Not sure if that helps.
Feel free to point out any issues/error. I'll likely ignore these though
