He won't be a better second rower than Cordner/Crichton, won't be better in the middle than JWH, Tauk, Liu, Collins, Butcher. Aubbo is a much better utility. Will probably end up taking the spot of Tupouniua/Faamausili, which I'm not sure is an upgrade for a 35 year old SBW.

Having him around the squad at training will definitely up the professionalism and help the youngsters, but not sure he helps on the field

he still has skills mate, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQwbDPQh_Sk

i think having a quality team around him will spark a second wind in him... much like we have seen the Morris twins wind the clock back

I don't think you can underestimate his influence off the field. SBW is a winner and a lot of our players attribute the roosters winning culture since 2013 to SBW's lasting legacy on the club

Roosters probably don't need anyone to come in to assist with their drive towards a 3 peat, but SBW will still be an asset in that regard.

I like the signing. Honestly don't think he will play much of a role in the 17, but that doesn't matter. The money is there in the cap, you wont get a better way to spend it at this stage of the season.

    not over it yet?

I was mainly joking because SBW is a top family man & never gets in trouble but I bet there's a hardcore group of Doggies fans who aren't over it. SBW is also a westie as am I & he grew up in Avondale & played for New Lynn Stags. When he was 15 he was playing under 21's & getting man of the match just about every game that's how good he was. In fact the Warriors scouts phucked up because they thought he was pretty average & passed on him so he went to the Bulldogs.

Great opinion from the chookpen forum:

Lock. Can run like a front rower, can tackle, can pass like a half. Finally we have a genuine replacement for Rads. A real link man.

Start with Isaac or Butcher and bring Sonny on after 25 minutes. Let him play the first 15 of the second half and depending on how the game is going bring him on for the final 10 minutes if needed...

Sure he was capable of that role 7 years ago when he won the comp with the Roosters. But he looked out of his depth in Super League which is a much slower pace

The Morris brothers are 2 years younger and have been playing in the backs at a high level since 2008. The claims of a second wind are nonsense, both have been at this level consistently for the last 10 years. Playing in the forwards is a young mans game

I think you will be surprised, still a really strong player, great trainer and in shape. Has great experience at the highest level across both codes. When you look at how a guy like Collins folded and lost the Roosters the game when Crichton went off last week. SBW stepping into that same role would have made the difference of winning the match.

Also SBW's is very injury prone these days & the last couple of years in rugby he was hardly on the field & that is rugby. How is he going to handle the intensity of the nrl. Good on him for still playing at his age but his body can only handle so much.

he wont be playing 80 or expected to carry the team, he is sliding right into a great side and if you dont think one of the best to play can come on the field and cause damage in short stints then i think you are severely underestimating the man.

Happy to be proven wrong but I just have tempered expectations for a 35 year old that has been out of the game for 7 years

Has CHN been sighted lately, I would think that having his contract torn up not having access to Dogs trainings, systems, support, and not knowing when or if he was ever gonna play NRL again, that a return surely is 4 weeks away

He'll more than likely come off the bench and play where he feels comfortable. Probably a better signing just for the behind the scenes stuff. Would be great for the young players and just a figure that would be great to have around the club. Especially when it comes to culture and training and things like that. Would give everyone confidence having him around.

Yeah but this is the team that's won back to back premierships. Chooks aren't exactly a struggling team that are in need of someone to lift professionalism off the field.

Cheers mate. I'd like to see these minutes continue, and a 9 day turn around might mean he does. I saw that moment during the game as well but it honestly just looked like he was pointing out a cork or something in his upper glute. Hopefully nothing serious.

If Matto is alright for next week, I'm just going to pretend he and RCG both had off nights and scored 42 each. Much easier to mentally accept that way haha

I've changed my trade. Instead of Angus to Tevaga I'm going Angus to CS9. I'm not sure how Tevaga will go against the Roosters & with his b/e his price won't increase too much but I have more certainty that CS9 against the Broncos will get a 60+ score.

Great news for Michael Chee Kam. He was released from hospital this morning and is at home.

Wests Tigers medical staff will monitor Chee Kam over the coming week. Highly doubtful that he will line up against the Vodafone Warriors next Friday night.
