May have went about the auction in the wrong way. On a one off game week, anything can happen, think I played it based on a seasonal. Should of got more solid players onto the field and filled out the 13 only need 1/2 of those middies to go big to offset.
Taupau onto bench as well.

Yeah I think I learnt a lot. I think I got the gist of it right but could have a few things differently and better. Fun challenge. Jele in the box seat but then saw Gagai out? But then as I type this Liddle in for a try, so Jele back in box seat I think.

I don't think there was any other way to play it mate. Pay on season averages and hope the weeks games go the same way. Look how many NRL Auction games we've played over the years. You nailed the actual Auction.

I've been bloody lucky with try scorers this weekend - Ravalawa (2), Mansour (2), Liddle, Manu. Take those away and those 'solid middies' would have been pretty average scorers.

SI winning this would make an absolute mockery of the bidding process.
Easily the worst performed at the bidding table.

My thinking and how it played out:
I went way unders on the first list in the hope I would pick up a couple of players at rock bottom to put me ahead cash wise. Was hoping to fill a couple of holes at 110k. When I got none I felt I had to up the ante and went hard to catch up on the second list. At this stage 3 of us (myself 0/Jele 2/Wolfie 0) only had 2 players won in total from the first list, and yet a couple of others were well on their way to filling their squad. So I assumed (wrongly) that the second list would be the most hotly contested. Thus I went hard and that lead to picking up pretty much everyone I bid on. I was only expecting 5 or 6 of them, again, because I thought Jele and Wolfie would be going hard as well.
I wasn't worried about the players I had won; but I was very worried that I only ended up with 10 scorers. That ended up being the average of all of us though in the end and my high bids allowed me some solid performers with great 3 or 5 Round averages.
That doesn't make a mockery of the bidding process. It just means I read the situation completely wrong expecting the second list to go high. It was never my intention to bust early. I have played quite a few Auction games over the years and I can safely say I have never won that greater percentage of players ever in 1 run. It was completely out of the blue. This game also had some unique traits that made it different. For example:
-not seeing prices till the end didn't allow a gauge on market value/competitor thinking;
-having a limited number of players knowing most could not field a full squad.
I actually enjoyed your structure B/L, but because of that structure you had to expect some very different strategies. Mine was to get a couple of cheapies in the first Round to save cash for later targets. That not happening and me reading the second list competition for players vibe wrong was why I ended up busting. It was VERY odd that I won all my players in 1 list, agreed, but that doesn't mean I read the form wrong nor not get value for money.

That's the way I took it The same as razzing Wolfking for "throwing" the challenge and razzing me (by PM) for spending too much in group A (whereas what I spent on guns was pretty good actually, which B/L would have known, haha, but had the desired effect of filling me with doubt given I wasn't really sure what I was doing!)
