It’s pretty easy to believe. Cleary plays in a side stacked with players taking points of him - Luai, Api, JFH, Kikau, Yeo etc.

It feels like every game the Raiders won at the back end saw Wighton score two tries.

Yep. Although Cleary was definitely the best player all year, that back end of the year (R15-19) for the Raiders saw Wighton average 1.2 tries per game, 5 tackle busts per game, a handful of line breaks, line break assists and a couple try assists and only really had Papalii to compete with. With Cleary, for rounds 15-20 I do remember guys like Martin, Luai a couple times, Yeo… all having blinders.

Wighton is a great player, but sucks when we all know Cleary was the best player. I am sure he will have a few Daly M’s on his shelf by the time his career is done anyways.

Wighton can thank Hodgson for him winning because Hodgson's injury meant Wighton had to be more involved.

I did think Wighton would poll well before announcement but R19 is a complete rort. Who on earth were judges for these games?

    R19 Wighton: 1 TA, sinbinned = 3 Dally M points
R19 Cleary: 2 TA, LB = 0 Dally M points. Supporting cast for Panthers only had Kikau who was better (try, TA, 2 LB)

Okay to begin with, I agree that is weird as fuck! Seems like something is going on there.

2TA could be Cleary just passing the ball to someone who falls over the line. Unfortunately, the Daly M's aren't based on who has the most stats but more on who they probably remember the most.

I personally think the Daly M's should be judged like the Brownlow's and have the refs give out there 3, 2 , 1 every game instead of the commentators.

It's always the same every year. Daly M rarely goes to the best player. Look at the top 10 and barring Cleary and Smith they are all from different teams. In good teams the votes get split. It's why Smith has won only 1 Daly M it's why Whighton & Hayne could win with a handful of stella performances at the back end of the year.

Comparing stats from 1 round is ridiculous, firstly the Daly M isn't a fantasy football award and anyone who has played the game knows there's plenty of 1%er stats that mean much more than throwing the final pass to an unmarked player for fantasy points.

That game in round 19 though, Cleary did sweet fuck all, there's no way anyone would watch that and think he was getting points. He looked like he was in self preservation mode in those last two rounds, I distinctly remember death riding him in round 19 as he was the most popular captain that week and I went with someone else. The line break fell in his lap late in the game and that resulted in one of the try assists, the other was from a fairly basic kick. Stats definitely don't tell the full story. (i didnt see the wighton game).

The Dally M system is broken but quite frankly I couldn't give a fuck whether they change it or not. I don't think the refs having a say is a good idea though.

No matter what they do, people will argue over the results.

There used to be a separate one judged by refs - Rothmans Medal - arguably some more “interesting” results there.

You can't bet on Dally M since the CEO of StatsEdge did the dodgy by betting on Bellamy to win coach of the year (and telling all his mates to as well)

Oh I know that. I am saying in general (years previous) it's just another way for them to pull in money. Fuck you can bet on what colour tie the PM will wear at his election.

Thank you as always. Salary cap looks good, able to get a couple of guns but have to go cheap in other areas, although you could tighten it even further.

I'm quite tempted just to put Whare as a non-playing CTR and use the 200k from CTR elsewhere

Naden is named to start but could revert to bench again and then cheapest CTR is Crichton

Would you get 30+ for the $200K ?
