Averillo is that cheap and in a position where points are easy to come by I don't think you can leave him out
Lots of value in options in both centers and halves. Likely more come TLT as usual. Is touch and go if he will be ready for round 1 from his injury and in a position with lots of competition already, and the possibility of Burton stealing the spot from him at any time if they can reach a deal with Panthers. If they start the season 0-3 they will be desperate to add Burton to the squad.

He has a low score in him, so dangerous to play in the 17, but too expensive for a 18-21 spot. Definitely not an automatic selection for many reasons.

    Alternatives include:
    - Niu, Young both cheaper in the centers, freeing up cash for other positions
    - Going for one of many mid range centers that look undervalued - Momo, Bird, Roberts etc
    - In the halves selecting 3 strong / mid range halves with one that you can play in your 14-17 is also a good strategy. Far more value in a guy like Lam as your 3rd half, for not much more money.

low score absolutely no worries in the CTR especially at start of season, can say that for any pure CTR. and absolutely not too expensive for 18-21 all about money making and if he's a better option than the 246k base then that's all that matters

we shouldn’t assume anyone is nailed on. All for a bit of chat about the pros and cons of various players. But ultimately I think we should pick the starting team via votes.

Agreed. Should we start with a captaincy vote to get the probable highest priced player into team first and build from there?

Makes sense, can see us doing something like voting Crichton as captain, then selecting Cleary in the squad as well though. Razz

we’ve previously just voted the team and a couple of captaincy options have naturally presented themselves. In fact, I’d be almost certain Cleary, Cook, Crichton, Teddy would get up.

For me, it has to be Cleary though. Far enough ahead of the next best in his position and more consistent than Teddy.

I'd go Cleary. but i'd put up the first vote mate as we are missing or expecting lowered roles to start season on a few big options Tolo/Haas/Mcinnes

Just trying to find a way to get started

For me there are 2 realistic captaincy options, Cleary or Crichton. Expecting them to score similarly, so the value option would be Crichton.

Probably safe to say both Cleary and Crichton will get the votes.  Personally, I am going to try and fit in Cook, Crichton, Harris, Cleary, and Teddy. Grab a  gun in each position (sorry Matt).

But rather than vote for captain or individual positions before finalising the squad, I still say we just roll with putting in our own teams with 1-5 points (up to a total of 50) and see where we get to. With a top 17 and cover for all positions rule enforced.  Trying to reverse engineer the squad after a series of individual votes sounds like a recipe for busting the salary cap...

mattnz wrote:I would love it if we could keep 1 spot spare for a mid ranger MID in the 500-700k range that can elevate to gun level this season.

We could all vote from a list of potential sub gun pods in that position. Just like every year, someone will make the jump from mid ranger to gun, even if the initial selection isn't the person we end up with after 2-3 rounds, having the team structure to fit them in is important.

If we just go for guns and cows throughout, as is likely to happen, based on popular voting, cows won't be tradeable and we won't trade out guns either, so wil miss really valuable opportunities that can set us up for the season, with a keeper at a discount.

The reason I am keen to make the spot a MID is that the regular guns all have question marks on their minutes or are injured, and I can see a lot of hidden value potential in that position, where a number of guys could easily step up to around 60 points average.

which mid range MID do you see making the step up?

I'm good with this mate. Start with the mentioned and go from there

I'm actually firming R1 as starting Tedesco as captain in my own side against Manly

This is what I'd go with, makes the FF community decide. Captain can be decided after team is picked.

I agree we should run similar to last year. Have everyone submit 1-21 with max of 50 points so you have to prioritize the players you really want

After that we can vote on captains/starting team

Last year Milchy figured out the cap compliant team with the most votes. If there are high numbers for Cleary, Cook, Teddy it would be hard to also fit in some mid rangers

For this exercise do I need to keep my team within the cap or just 1-21 with popular votes not surpassing 50?

Last year I think everyone just submitted their own 21 so it's automatically cap compliant.

I guess if you wanted to change a few around it would be best to be cap compliant

This is from Milchy's post last year

    Milchy wrote:

Voting is now open for the starting squad for our Community Team 2020

Voting will close at 9pm on Wednesday 11th March 2020 (Sydney time)

If you vote this week, you will be allowed to update your vote after initial team lists on Tuesday

A successful vote will be for 21 players that comply with fantasy's salary cap and positional requirements
Each player should be ranked from 1 (least wanted in squad) to 5 (most wanted)
Total ranking points should not exceed 50
The most popular cap compliant players will become our initial 21 man squad
Only players named in the first 17 players of their team will be considered for selection in our final squad.

To vote please list the players name, exactly as it appears on the fantasy website, followed by a full stop, followed by your ranking
You can vote in this thread or by sending me a PM
    eg
    Cameron Smith.1
    Payne Haas.1
    Trent Merrin.1
    Jamed Tedesco.1
    Joe Lovodua.5
    Jaydn Su'A.3
    etc

If you do not follow this format, I can not guarantee your vote will count.
I will try my best to pick up any errors I spot, but some mistakes might slip through.
