It never occurred to me we might normalise it to the extent people pay 500k for a damn centre.

I thought we used ‘training the house down’ as a joke because it was such stale bullshit.

Just curious to see what everyone's consensus is surrounding the hooker position.
TU if you are starting with a gun hooker
TD if you are running with a middy/cow hooker and splashing the cash in other positions

castlecrag sweethearts wrote:My take on Peachey at CTR as opposed to say Roberts or Momirovski (or even Cotric) is that these players while having the potential to score well, are just as likely to also pump out a 20 reasonably regularly and end up averaging around 30-35. I don't really think this is keeper status in CTR and I will end up fiddling around trying to upgrade them to a keeper. I think 35-40 is Peachey's floor in the position and I am likely to keep him all season. He is also MID cover and at worst won't lose money.
Or we could see a return to his scores from rounds 4,5,6 last year where he scored 21(42 minutes), 25(60 minutes) and 7(57 minutes). Or his scores from 2019 round 11-19 where he scored 24(55 minutes), 42(62 minutes), 21(57 minutes), 12(50 minutes).
Plenty of times over the years Peachey has started on the bench and put up atrocious fantasy score. We have also seen many purple patches like the back end of last year that makes everyone consider him

I:”Hey BrandNewCoach - we hear your owners have splashed serious cash on a future superstar! Will you play him in his preferred position?”
C:”Maybe! But I hate my job and/or was dropped on my head as a baby, so I’m thinking about putting him into the bench rotation in favour of some bench-perfect utility!”
I:”Ok. Good call. Can I borrow 50 bucks?”

I avoid players that come off the bench, especially a versatile guy like Peachey who could find himself in the backline at any given time

Bird has never played in a team challenging for the spoon and is coming off 2 ACLs. I definitely wouldn’t classify him as a set and forget CTR
Pretty all the talk of him moving into forwards has disappeared as well
There are quite a few good players at the Dragons vying for a spot in the outside backs. I get the impression still that the intention is still to have Bird make the shift if he is confident of doing so. I cannot be sure of his injuries but I think he will score well as long as he is on the field. I find it hard to get excited about Roberts or Momiroviski. I would prefer base price CTRs instead. It is a calculated risk.

Peachey is definitely on some Aubusson black widow shit I agree with the lot of you. If he keeps a 35 average post origin though he's going straight into my final 17 asap though

He played at CTR in these games. The difference is Holbrook. He has identified a role for Peachey as a MID and built the team around this role. He was one of the best for the Titans in this role last year and it coincided with a winning streak. Anyway, no point in rehashing the point. I am comfortable with selecting him here. Nobody else needs to follow suit. Choose your own poisons

Momirovski and Roberts both have trade rage potential. You are going to need to be strong to avoid this if you choose them.
CTR was a real garbage position last year and unless you're prepared to fork out a little extra to boost a weak position to start Round 1, a 30-35 AVG CTR should suffice for most of the year because nobody really stands out.
If I had to pick who I thought the best option of the higher priced CTR's are I'd honestly say Euan Aitken. Scores highly through tackle breaks and huge run metres as opposed to having a great strike rate and as the Maumalo/Aitken edge pairing is probably going to be frequently used as a battering ram coming out of their 20 I think he'll get plenty of metres.

Is that all good for the spanking? Sounds like a party to avoid this Page 51?

Roberts actually has quite decent base stats for a CTRcastlecrag sweethearts wrote:

In 2020 and 2019, only had 2 non-injury CTR games where he didn’t get either 100m or 15 tackles

Okay I'll post one draft team before TLT just so I know if I'm on the right track or not.
Brailey
Watson, Crichton, Tino
Fifita, Riki
Munster, Cleary
Roberts, Averillo
Laurie, Papenhuyzen, Teddy
Liddle, Host, Lodge, Lam
Moylan, Niu, Stefano, Simonsson
I wasn't kidding when I said I've loaded up on the popular players.

Assuming TLT is as expected, this team looks great. Popular but still a great team. I wouldn't be too concerned about percentages of ownership either, you'll be able to bring in plenty of players with trades that may be POD's and what not.
edit: is averillo even going to be fit for round 1? Would you be able to get Bird somehow

I like Peachey, he’s made my shortlists but ultimately I think the extra 200k is better spent anywhere but CTR
But I do get it. For me he is the only CTR I would be confident betting will finish in the top 5 scorers at the position.
Im not going to mock it when people were seriously discussing Cotric at a similar price yesterday.

Re Averillo
From original injury article on Dogs website:
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs can confirm Jake Averillo has suffered a low grade MCL elbow injury.
The outside back will miss the club’s trial next week against the Cronulla Sharks, but will be available for selection for round one against the Newcastle Knights.
