There's surely an easier rule of thumb without delving in to data that little guys like Koro and Mahoney go lower for the legs tackles and are unlikely to accidentally clothesline anyone. They are more likely to get knocked out making their tackles though, so swings and roundabouts.

I wouldn't start panicking about what happens at the judiciary yet though. Half the things that go on report don't even get there as it is, and there's going to be a big media/club backlash against the cracking down on top of that.

Oz Sport Mad wrote:Well I've unfortunately become accustomed to my team getting beaten fairly regularly the last couple of years but for the first time in 35 odd years of watching League - I turned the game off tonight.

I don't like losing but I will still watch to the end or sit in the stands to the 80th minute of every game....but not tonight - that wasn't a contest and that certainly wasn't sport.
In fact, it was akin to watching a boxing referee tie the hands of a bloke already getting well and truly belted.

And please spare me the absolute dribble about protecting players and that these crack downs shouldn't be controversial anymore.
That's the sort of illogical nonsense we have accepted for far too long, which has got us into this situation.

After Riki was binned, I watched (my players BTW) innocuously - but still technically come into contact with the head of a bloke in every single tackle of the following set.
    Every. Single. Tackle.
It was the exact same minor force but by the letter of the law, all these blokes should have been binned too.

So where is the uproar there?

I have no qualms with protecting players where we can but it has to be so far as is reasonably practicable.

If we are going to ruin the sporting contest, we can't be in no man's land like we are.
Minor incidental head contact is either accepted as a reasonable risk when entering the field of play, or all situations where a head can be contacted (i.e. every tackle) should be eliminated.

Like this summation, as well as WL's challenge to make a game 0 v 13, i dare them.

This is on the back of many changes that the Nrl and part-time fans think the loyal fans will always accept and adjust to. It's a totally different thing though, when like me and sounds like Oz, it isn't a stance or choice you are taking against the rule changes, it is the fact you actually are not enjoying the product as much anymore. Peoples all time fave, nothing gets in the way of, cancel all other plans for.. ur safe place pastime has been eroded to another 'version' of a sport. Keep it up, watch it fall away. You cannot call a game Rugby League if it has been torn down and turned into something else. If you don't get peoples frustration, you never got it in the first place.

I'm off on a BBQ boat/cruise today around Brisbane waters.... I declined the invite 3 months ago knowing what round of Nrl was on this weekend, but begged for entry this morning ! Who woulda..... If i don't post later today, it means I'm 13 in and h2h with a bull shark. Someone pm me the Sharks v Rabbits result. I have Bunnies 20+

    Enjoy the day brethren

329/7. Lost ranks though because Schuster is in the loop. Have Haas and Pangai but not too worried about their scores. Will be pretty annoying if Pangai misses any game time though.

    Starling is short too 😈

I’m 9/397 and probably the highest rank I will be this round, I’d be happy if I hold rank this round.

If league is too tough or you get offended go play chess.

Holy Moly wrote:The fighting was one of the things I, and I'm guessing many people, used to love about rugby league. My interpretation was that they got rid of fighting to improve the viewing experience for families.

On medical grounds I get the HIA rule, but in a sport like boxing, surely there is some kind of waiver that boxers sign to say, "Hey, I am aware of the risks and won't sue you." Players could sign something like that or they could have compulsory wearing of head gear.

HIAs occur so frequently that many teams are being left short of players, hence the crack down on head contact.

I understand that sin binning essentially got rid of fighting in the NRL, but will it have the same effect on high tackles? Many high tackles are far less intentional than throwing a punch.

What is the end result of this enforcement?

Headgear does nothing for concussions, it basically just stops cuts.

If it had any real impact on preventing brain injuries, far more people would be wearing it.

Mouth guards are the only real thing they have that helps try to minimise brain injuries right now.

The judiciary will have been told to go hard on those reported this week. Expect lots of red dots. Will be particularly harsh on those with a bad history at judiciary as they will get an extra 1-2 weeks. Unfortunately there will be a snow-ball effect, as many will quickly get bad track records at judiciary.

My team only has 17 this week, if both Papy and Walker play after trading 2 red dots. Have seen others much worse off. Wouldn't surprise me to see an extra 2 trades handed out next week if most teams can't field 17.

Starling only traded into 0.71% of teams this week, compared with I am guessing half the teams here. Either everyone else has missed a huge opportunity, or we are over confident in the reports around Hodgson.

It will just be like any other trade in with risk, some will get on next week if it looks clearer. No major difference. Any cash missed, may have been made up in other trades on saved trades.

One thing I don't understand. Sin bin crackdown was meant to be for high shots. But none of the Tigers /Knights bins was for high contact. They were all for professional fouls /repeated infringementd. Was there a crack down on that too that wasn't reported?

Another point is that a relatively vocal contingent have been asking for more sin bins when teams repeatedly infringe defending their own line. Now that it's happening it seems to be ruining the game. Is it a case of be careful what you wish for. Or were those comments only supposed to apply to the Roosters

Even if the subject of chess makes u turn away straight away, it is worth watching, very well put together. Extremely easy on the eye lead actress.

Start watching it today when the first game starts

Head gear has zero affect when it comes to headknocks/concussion. Headgear is generally to stop cuts to the head.

I think there would be all sort of legal and moral issues in getting the players to sign something like that. The reality is that headknocks are getting cracked down on by every contact sport. They might say it is for player welfare but in reality it is to cover themselves for any kind of lawsuit down the track.

Maybe it will kill the sport, or people will just get used to it like fighting/shoulder charges. Who knows. But it won't be stopped.
