A nice looking rd17 team in there. Running low on trades is a concern. But if you avoid injury mayhem, your team is solid as

Nathan Brown has regularly indicated he doesn't want Walsh to play every week in the NRL - I agree with Wolfy in that there's a fairly strong chance he misses all 3 rounds IF he is selected for Origin 3 as well.

I agree. It's 4 days recovery for him in Round 16 (and Bhunt) and with RTS sitting there, I agree he will get a rest round 16, if not be a 14th man for impact in the last 30 or so.

Rd 17 would be 3 days after Warriors game for Origin, if he's named again he will miss this

Round 18 again he has 3 days recovery before his game.

Given what browny has been saying about not throwing him in head first, I think there's a really strong case he misses the next 3 for the warriors.. at best he may get 80 mins across the 3.

Ben Ikin quits Fox League to join Brisbane Broncos as head of football

The Brisbane Broncos have made a massive play in their bid to revive the former NRL powerhouse, bringing in Ben Ikin to fill a key role at the club.

Brisbane have scored a major coup by appointing former premiership star Ben Ikin as their head of football to preside over the rebuild of the crisis-torn Broncos.

The Courier-Mail can reveal Ikin has resigned from Fox Sports and will start at the Broncos within the week as the successor to Peter Nolan, who was sacked as Brisbane’s football chief following an internal review last Friday.

The appointment of Ikin is one of the most significant administrative moves in Brisbane’s 33-year history as Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy moves swiftly to revive the ailing powerhouse as a title force under embattled coach Kevin Walters.

Ikin’s installation comes just four months after he was overlooked for the Broncos’ CEO post in favour of Donaghy, who believes the former Queensland Origin playmaker can spearhead the reconstruction of Brisbane’s football department.

The 44-year-old has been a respected host of the NRL 360 program for the past decade, but Wednesday night’s episode will represent his Fox League swan song before he takes on one of the toughest jobs in Australian sport.

Ikin is regarded as one of the sharpest minds in rugby league and Broncos powerbrokers are adamant his football knowledge will drive Brisbane’s football department under Walters’ plan to revive the last-placed glamour club.

Ikin confirmed he has formally accepted the Brisbane post and is hellbent on helping the Broncos break their 15-year premiership drought.

“The Broncos are a great club,” he said.

“The NRL team isn’t doing so great at the moment, so this opportunity is both exciting and challenging.

“Broncos fans are desperate to see the NRL team playing finals and winning premierships again, and I’ll be doing everything I can to make that happen.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my ten years working at Fox Sports hosting NRL 360.

“I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside some very talented people who all helped craft the show into what it’s become.

“I specifically want to thank my good mate Paul Kent (NRL 360 co-host), who gave me an education in journalism and showed me every day what fearless storytelling looks like in the flesh.”

Jonathan Ng Ikin has an intimate understanding of the Broncos. He played 55 of his 150-game NRL career for the club and was a member of the Broncos team which won the 2000 premiership, playing five-eighth in Brisbane’s 14-6 defeat of the Sydney Roosters.

The crafty playmaker remains the youngest player in State of Origin history, making his Queensland debut aged 18 years and 83 days, and went on to play 17 matches for the Maroons.

One of Ikin’s immediate tasks will be sorting out the salary-cap mess that saw the Broncos lose a bidding war for David Fifita and young gun Reece Walsh. The club has also given Tevita Pangai Jnr and Matt Lodge permission to leave to free up funds for a major rebuild.

Ikin last year slammed Brisbane’s roster management as “disgusting” and now he gets the chance to put his stamp on the Broncos’ football department and spark a seminal turnaround.

The Broncos were expected to advertise for the general manager of football position this week but Donaghy is adamant Ikin is the right appointment.

“Ben brings a wealth of rugby league knowledge and is widely respected in the game,” he said.

“We believe he is a perfect fit for this senior role that is critical to the future success of our football club and I look forward to working with him.”

Fox Sports executive editor Luke McIlveen said Ikin’s departure to the Broncos is a huge loss for the network.

“Ben Ikin has been an integral part of the success of NRL 360 since day one,” he said.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Ben to return to the club that means so much to him at a time when they need him most.

“We wish him all the best.

Ikin and Kent will co-host NRL 360 for the final time on Wednesday night, where the team is planning a special tribute episode.

Lucky I got Walsh in early and got some decent scores up early! but that’s annoying he’s potentially missing for next 3

If Ponga is fit (and/or Brimson) they should start ahead of Walsh for origin 3

So still a reasonable chance Walsh plays for Warriors in r17

Unless the Ponga injury is worse than I though, I don't see Walsh playing in Origin 3 unless he has an incredible debut.

With Turbo likely only playing 1 of the next 3 (plays Friday after SOO3) I think I'm going to have to wait for round 19 to bring him in, which means next week will be another hide behind the couch kinda week.

Do we really think Ponga would play game 3 when the series is dead and buried? His injury must be worse than first thought and being thrown back into that wouldn't be wise.. look at Harry Grant out again.

Call me silly but I think Walsh will have a decent game, make a few highlight reel moves and the focus will be on other performers and the scoreline when they get rocked again.

Yeah think I'm with you, would be nice to get him for peace of mind but it doesn't really seem the smart play

It'll be an interesting TLT for Hynes - poised to lose 110k with a fortnight of 20-point bench starts.

Tempting to let him go asap, but for me the Matto takes preference

Yeah, it suddenly dawned on me afterwards.
I was thinking more inline with how many trades they would have left i.e. if averaging say 5 round 17 players but with only 7 trades left, then that gives an indication of how many they could afford to run. But yeah, I should probably get off my ass and work it out Smile  - maybe next week

I went ahead and did it before I read this but:

This counts all players who play Round 17 and aren't in the second origin match squad. (I think that's right, only new to fantasy this year)

    Average:
    Top 10: 5.2
    Top 100: 5.7
    Top 1000: 5.5

    In terms of min/max range:

    Top 10 has between 4 and 7
    Top 100 has between 3 and 10
    Top 1000 has between 1 and 1

    Finally caught up

Shit show of a week saw me score 989 and lose ~1500 ranks

Trades looking like Matterson and Leilua OUT Tohu and Verrills IN

Next week if I go Fogarty and Jones to Chambers and AFB I have ~450k banked and this for 17 with 5 trades left

    Verrills
    Thompson, Tauk, AFB
    Tohu, CHN
    Walker, SJ
    Aitken, Chambers
    Walsh*, Simonsson, X

Will be tempted to go with 2 more in 17 but not a lot of options I want

Plenty of bank to move Laurie>Latrell/Papy/Ponga post round 17 and Hunt/CHN>Fifita/Crichton

Will be running home on fumes but should have 21 green dots

EDIT: Will have this for the run home

    Koroisau
    Haas, Thompson, Tauk
    Tohu, Fifita/Crichton
    Cleary, SJ
    Aitken, Bird
    Teddy, Walsh, Ponga/Papy/Latrell

    McCullough, AFB, Hunt/CHN, Moses
    Walker, Verrills, Chambers, Simonsson

Elliott out for a month or two helps with Doorey’s JS as well. Maybe Suaalii as a Teddy handcuff but both of them are closer to 300k than base

I wonder do they rush back RFM (R19-22) off a Lisfranc injury or just leave him for rest of season and give him the offseason to come back fresh

Doorey looks good option (already have Chambers), but tempted to just get a “2021 Billy Brittain” and tempt the fantasy gods with a red dot to help with more prominent upgrades elsewhere as my plans are tight on cash

Probably a conversation for next Monday after the game. I don't see him not featuring in game 3 regardless of the result IMO. Could definitely see a bench role for a game or 2 though I guess.

If anyone's keen on First or Anytime tryscorer options for Origin Game 2, odds comparison & model/historical odds are updated on edge.sporttechdaily.com/nrl Will update Draftstars later in the week when the contest is up.

    Best plays IMO are Latrell @ 2.50, Cleary @ 3.75 & DCE @ 7 for ATS. Paulo @ 67, Capewell @ 34 and Murray @ 26 for FTS.

Noticed there's no Origin Fantasy on NRL Fantasy this year. Are there any other sites that are doing one for fun?
