Josh Addo-Carr could end up with a hattrick for 2 teams in one match.

It'll be difficult when the try-scorer has to spend 10 minutes in the "try bin" in an effort to level out the scores and prevent blow-outs.

I think the two balls in play has a lot of merit.  You might see teams concede a try in the corner so they can score one under the posts.

Also only allowing an interchange to the team that just conceded a try would help with balance.  Once a team uses all their interchange they can use any unused players on the opposition bench.  Fans would love it.  Any points scored by these loaned players would also count towards the for and against on the ladder for their official team.

Imagine the scenes when a noted one-on-one strip merchant like Munster steals the opposition ball, WHILE HOLDING HIS TEAM'S BALL HIMSELF! Dummies both balls (left and right at the same time) and the defence part giving him a free run to the tryline for a double ball swandive under the posts. 12pts from the one play.

The thing about rule changes is they also have unintended consequences.

Make it so "losers kickoff" is intended to stop the winning team banging in 3-4 unanswered tries I guess.

But it also stops all the thrilling late comeback games.

Imagine the blockbuster where a team scores in the 77th min to get within 2, and instead of having to go 100m to score off the next kickoff, they have to try and manufacture a short kickoff and regather.

There are probably benefits as well to the change and FWIW I'm fairly indifferent to this one - don't think it would destroy the sport or even be in the top 5 worst rule changes/interpretations.

The point is to highlight none of these rule changes are straightforward and as much as RL strength is (often reckless) evolution they could take slightly more care before floating these ideas out there and especially before implementing them.

Sometimes, at U8 soccer training, I take the goalkeeper away from the team that's winning.

You could take a player off the field every time a try is scored and they aren't allowed to return until the opposition scores.
......or both teams line up at the start of the game and the captains get to pick their 17's from the combined 34

My experience with U8s soccer is that the goalkeeper is a fairly marginal advantage anyway - a large traffic cone will usually stop at least as many (if not more) shots.

True, generally swapping the goal scorer is more effective

As someone currently coaching an U8s soccer team, the improvement in goalkeeper ability from the start of the season to now has been remarkable.
Last week we grabbed a draw against a better team due to goalkeeper performance. Kids pulling off diving saves that just a month or 2 ago they would have looked at motionless as they rolled into the goal.

Make it like U10's where the team scored against gets to restart with a tap from halfway
They are already implementing can't tackle above the armpits so may as well just use all the mod league rules

This is also something....my daughter saved a penalty last week...on purpose.

For most it's their first year with a decent sized pitch so it's great when they suddenly realise that they don't just have to chase the ball the whole game and some of them start looking for passes, making a run or even just standing in space

Edit : Just for some light relief the penalty was for hand ball in the box. I called to the defenders to 'help the keeper out' so one of them picked up the ball Laughing

Definitely they improve as the season progresses. Had to explain to my daughter though that the goalkeeper is still allowed to come outside the box/arc - just can't pick it up. She stood at the edge of the arc while the ball slowly rolled towards her, and one of the opposition got there first and dribbled around her to score.

Really can't see how that's a shoulder charge? Seemed to wrap his arm, looked like a pretty classically correct tackle?

Far from my favourite team but the Dragons have quite frankly been hammered during this frustratingly inconsistent and inaccurate crackdown phase, that we unfortunately find ourselves in.
