My biggest worry at the moment is whether the new Vlandys rules are going to impact scoring too much.

If the 6-agains coming out of a teams own 20m zone become penalties, how much will this
    - reduce kick metres
    - slow down the game in general

Last year broke all sorts of records for fantasy scoring, which I don't think will be repeated this year.
The issue I am grappling with is whether this will effect players roughly equally, or whether some will hurt more than others.
Its the one thing that makes me doubt Cleary. The reduction in kicking points has been priced in, so I don't care too much about that. But if he is also kicking less because of penalties getting teams further down the field before they kick, then that is something that matters. He'll still be involved in heaps of Panthers tries, and he'll still be a junk time specialist. But would a reduction in overall points hurt Cleary any more than say DCE, or Fifita, or whatever other captain option you have?

Cleary KMs (regular season, over 60min)

    2019 218m
    2020 501m
    2021 520m

As we all know, the big increase from 2019 to 2020 was Maloney vs Luai. Except for the the first couple of games I think, 2020 had six agains for ruck infringements but not inside the 10. In theory peak KMs would have been in 2021 when inside the 10 was added. In round 1 of 2020 (before the six agains were introduced) Cleary still had no trouble racking up 571 Kms against the Roosters. But,

If you take Panthers' 2019 Kms as a guide for Kms pre-six again, you have Cleary with 218, Maloney with 242 for a total of 460. Compare that to last year with (in games Luai and Cleary played together) Cleary 520 Luai 74 for a total of 594. In this example if kms go back down to 2019 levels, the Panthers lose 134 kms, Cleary could assume 117 of those on a pro rata basis, essentially costing him about 4 points extra per game.

Of course there could be a million factors why the Panthers kms increase from 2019 to 2021, Cleary getting better at kicking probably among them. My take is that it probably affects him a couple of points (and would affect all halves who kick) but nowhere near enough to not make still head and shoulders the best captaincy option.

I currently am as well, I rate Randall. Fitter than Dylan edwards which is tough to do so don’t doubt his fitness for big minutes. Thing is if something does happen to him his replacement won’t be much more expensive to swap if neefed

Yeah but Taumalolo did not play in those games. That is the difference. Maybe something like this?

    8. Coen Hess

    9. Reece Robson

    10. Jamayne Taunoa-Brown

    11. Jeremiah Nanai

    12. Heilum Luki

    13. Jason Taumalolo

    14. Reuben Cotter

    15. Jordan McLean

    16. Mitchell Dunn

    17. Tom Gilbert

I don’t expect to do as well this year with a few things on.

    Current pack is

    Randal
    Tapine, bullimore, arrrow
    Aitken, Fifita.

Keep an eye on Tapine's vaccination status as currently he's not vaxxed so he can't play in q/land

Cheers mate. No, no, the shining, award winning humour will continue, I can't have it as it is, to much rinse and repeat posting at times, although I do feel there's some who wish the shite posting wasn't a thing. To conscious I think. Me that is.

They play the first game. If any uncertainty, have 2 teams set up ready to run with.

Which starts in Rd2 in Townsville....

Makes it hard to pick him

*edit - on further look, the next 2 QLD games they play are rd 9 and 10....so not too bad I guess.

Or take the hit round 1 and not have to stress round 2 when those that don’t have him want him.

The other problem for Tapine is mins because there are a lot of middles & Ricky chops & changes to give them all game time. Only Whitehead is nailed for big mins & that's on the edge but there was the rumour he could be lock but they have plenty of middles.
