Was interested in Tapine until some talk about issues travelling to Queensland games? I assume some vax issue??

Lolo nice but would have to rip up team more than want to

Pick the team you want to pick and not the team someone else wants you to pick.

Everyone is just guessing on mins, job security, etc. Its a new year. Things change.

Why will King start at lock instead of Cheese after Grant comes back?

Because Cheese will start at hooker, with Grant coming off the bench and King coming off when that happens.

King will get 2 stints, one ~20 minute stint at lock to start, and then another ~20 minute stint at prop later in the game

Grant will come on at ~20 minutes and play out the game, while Cheese will play the first ~20 minutes at hooker and then play 40 more minutes at lock.

This combination is what they were doing last year, but with King there instead of Finucane.

I worry that if I choose someone who is at their value, if they don't score well out of the gate, you need to make a double trade to get Cleary. Right when you are going to want to be bringing in cows you need before you miss the boat.

Will this leave me to far behind in points or is it a good strategy to save a trade and be ready to bring Cleary back in where others may find them selves without him for longer? Given the comments from his team mates about thinking he would be ready. I suspect they may be over estimating his return and he will be back sooner rather then later.  I can either launch Mann or Ilias/Schnieder for Cleary depending on games played etc.

    Randall,
    Crichton, Uto, Bulle
    Nanai, Fifita
    Schneider, Ilias
    Burton, Penis
    Pap, S.Crichton, Hynes

    Wilton, Tuilagi, Clark, Mann
    Fifita, King, Russell, T.Koula

$546 in the bank ready for Cleary to come back

I'm really tempted by this approach too. There's lots of money potentially sitting around, and it doesn't sit right with me not to be running starting edges under 400k, especially when the money is needed later.

Probably going to be doing myself out of a few points at the start, and likely will be far too far behind to catch up.

Hmmmm...... should probably model this. Very similar team to yours Nuts - but I will go away and test growth-vs-points and keep you posted.

    Mahoney C
    Bullemor Utoikamanu JHetherington
    Tuilagi Nanai
    Hastings Burton
    Bird Tago
    SCrichton Hynes Papenhuyenz

    Randall Fermor JATB Katoa
    Illia Amaone Paulo Schneider

Need to figure out JKing vs Bullemor, JTB vs Tolo, Kato/Fermor/Wilton/Martin

Josh is better than Max but both are good cheapies.

Josh King will start at lock, even after Grant is back (they'll stick to the combo they used last year and just use King where they had Finucane before), and get ~40 minutes. At his PPM, that's a 40 average, priced at 26

Josh King PPM is 0.75 = 30 in 40 minutes, priced at 26.

    Important point made by mtb.

Nobody is stealing your logon and making unwanted changes to your team. If there is a dud in your team you are the one responsible for it.

But Milch what about the group speak which stops everyone here winning the whole thing when they picked the wrong King to start the season!!!

I was only taking 30+ minute games into account, as PPM is less accurate the fewer minutes a guy plays, plus at worst King would be getting at least 30 mins.

With that restriction he averaged 1.02PPM last year, and just looking at him, he's got quite a motor on him and is probably the fittest player at the Storm (he was the highest performer in the Storm's army camp training that they do each year)

The toss up is that $546k could let you do something like Russell into Haas/Cook/iPap/almost any player

Will the ease of getting Cleary in make up for the lost points by having unused cash for the first few weeks?
Of course if Cleary comes back round 2 you are laughing (although you'll still have to ditch Burton/Wilton someone to being him in)

You don't think with how Wishart went in the pre-season, and pending how he goes round 1 we might just see Bellyache put Smithy in the middle and have Grant starting with Wishart playing 20-30 minutes around the middle of the game, with Smithy being solely a forward now?

I don't think he'll do that, Wishart will get a few games over Origin while Grant's out, and Grant is a bit injury prone too.

The 1-2 combo of Cheese and Grant was killing teams last year, and why fix what isn't broken?

Mostly gut feel, I don't think they'll change what worked last year, and King can slot straight into Finucane's spot, he has the motor for it. He may not get as many mins (Finucane was getting 55 mins), but he'll be good.

What would change with my theory? Cheese playing lock and Grant playing 9, just means the 1-2 punch starts from the opening kick rather than waiting until the 30 minute mark when Grant comes on. I just think our forward depth is pretty low and it's not like Grant is some backup bench hooker who can't play big minutes. Just IMO but I feel this is something that coule definitely happen, especially if King doesn't perform.
