My analysis for the PODs in my team.....
Warning - Rose coloured glasses were worn when doing this analysis. I am typically looking for high ceiling potential players as PODs.
Some PODs will work out and if they hit their ceiling will be great value. Others won't work out and will look to target other mid range priced players to replace them, the likes of iPap and Jackson from last season.
Robson 0.8%
- Looking for 80 minutes most weeks, with Granville missing from the 17, after playing in the 17 every week last season.
- Cotter is on the bench, but Payten has previously said he is now a MID not a HOK (was when they had Granville on the bench as well).
- Expecting Luki to use an interchange each game and they don't have an 80 minute MID, so the plan will be that they need an 80 min Hooker most weeks, so they don't run out of interchanges in the case of an injury or 2 during the game.
- Hooker is the hardest position to fill and Robson should hopefully fill that nicely. 60 average potential if getting 80 minutes most weeks.
- Got 80 minutes 4 of his last 8 games last season. Has the engine for the role.
- Plays round 13.
Tapine 0.8%
- Had him to start last season as well, started that year on fire before getting injured. Showed great form in pre-season this year too. Gun player, just needs minutes
- Landed on the starting prop role next to Papalii to finish last season. In those 7 games he averaged 50 minutes for 51 points, almost all just base from carting the ball up and tackling, no tries or try assists, but is a genuine gun player capable of damaging runs and scoring many tries. Gains on TBs vs OF, taking his average up to 53.
- Priced at 46, so 7 points of value if he just does the basics in a 50 minute role. If he guns it as expected, should be pushing closer to 60 as a gun keeper, about $200k under-priced.
- 4 experienced MIDs from last season have all left the club and Sutton missing from the 17, about to exit for Bulldogs is a great sign, hopefully he makes an early exit.
- Plays round 13
Wilton 1.4%
- Gun in the making. Huge base stats, as good as any EDG in the comp. in 8 starts on the EDG, has scored over 50 6 times. Super-consistent, really talented footballer.
- 36 tackles and 135m average as starting EDG gives him 49 points of base on the EDG each week, plus any attacking stats! Should go huge on his day, with a really high floor
- Replaced Nikora on the right EDG on form last season, before getting injured.
- Priced at 39, looking for 55 average while Graham is out, expected to play 5 rounds
- Have said all preseason that as soon as he gets an opportunity, he is straight in my team. This is his chance to cement an EDG spot.
- Decent chance that when Graham returns, he takes Nikora's spot again on form. Even if he doesn't Graham is always breaking down and an HIA away from retirement. Can keep Wilton for a couple of weeks, playing off the bench while his BE is still really low, so won't lose cash and see what happens.
- Best case scenario, I have a consistent season Keeper for $484k, at least $200k underpriced
- Plays round 17
Cody Walker 6.3%
- The main man at Souths. Will get the ball every time he wants it next to junior half. Got most of the kicking in the trial.
- End of last season, the game plan changed, he started running the attack on both left and right sides of the field. Started a huge try assist run when this changed, averaging 60 to finish last season.
- Priced at 51, targeting a 60 average, which will be a top 3 half this season.
- Should be one of very few halves that will score more from kicking meters this year than last and will be even more dominant in a top attacking side in Reynold's absence
- Plays round 17
Timoko 0.5%
- has amazing stats for a guy who hasn't scored a try in the NRL yet, averaging 43, but priced at 36. Even with TB nerf (that all CTRs are impacted by), should be a great buy who finally cements his spot and starts scoring tries.
- has scored 80 without a try! Imagine his ceiling with a couple of tries
- Looking for him to be a mid to high 40s player as a cut priced keeper
- Plays round 13
Mitchell 2.3%
- Only misses 1 game to start the season now, back round 2. Can loop him in round 1.
- Had a great year last season, really looking forward to the Walker / Mitchell combo, for some great scoring when they really put on a show together.
- Should also step up in the absence of Reynolds, including taking his 8 points per game in goal kicking!
- Targeting 60+ average, priced at 54. Season keeper, top 3 WFB.
- Prefer him to Papy, who is injury prone and likely misses more games if any HIA and can easily drop in price due to this.
- Plays Origin
Ramsey 7%
- Has bulked up and looks a better player this season with strong trials form
- May share fullback duties with Sloan during the game
- Suli was great setting him up for tries
- Really cheap, planning to loop him each week using Koula, until Koula gets his start. Catch the good scores, miss the bad ones, eventually cash out.
- Cheap, great job security, should be good value and make cash. If I get really lucky, he gets the fullback role at some point in the season, to get a run of points to cash out.
- Plays round 17
