A red dot is not making any money or providing any cover and while $150k is the aim for all of your cows and goats, the reality is that some will make $250k and some will flop and if you can average out somewhere near $150k then great.
Sometimes you have to take a swing knowing that the likelihood of success is slim.

I look at my team and I started with Ming, Starling, Critter and Schneider who I’m fairly sure will pass that 150k mark and then some, so a punt on a guy that might only go up 100k but allows me to fill that bank up for Cleary is a deal im willing to make.

Want to join a random, meaningless H2H league starting in Round 3 that’s named after one of Parra’s most infamous players? Why not?

Of course you're right, if you buy Thompson, ideally he'd make 150k. But remember ideally we want our cows to on average make 150k. Some might make 120k and some might make 180k+. An often overlooked aspect is the speed at which they'll make it. The sooner you make the money, the sooner you can bring in your next gun. Upgrades at the start of the year are way more powerful than ones later in the year due to the effect of compounding. Thompson making a quick 100k could be way better than say a Tuilagi who might eventually make money (or might not), but at what opportunity cost? I'm still hoping he makes 150k though..

The fact that so many are on him actually limits the potential damage having him can do to your team.
If, however, the kid pulls out another 45 you'll be kicking stones for not jumping on.
I learnt my lesson years ago when the Cowboys debuted a young forward and I ignored him for too many rounds - name of Coen Hess.
    I've never forgiven him.

I have fond memories of that. I was actually at the game at Cbus when he ran over Kane Elgey twice to score two tries.

    Yes.

These are based on assumption he is a slow burn, if he falls over the line in next 2/3 weeks then boom

Think he’s an upgrade on mann, I’m too scared to miss the fifita points train when it eventually pulls into the station

Worth making the point that you shouldn't trade someone in because of their BE

3 weeks from now that BE will be gone, but they'll still be in your team. Are you happy to have a 10 minute benchie in your team who scores crap and loses money because 4 weeks ago he put up a half decent score?

BEs are better used to determine when to trade, not who to trade

Oh he was fun to watch IRL, but as a Fantasy newbie who at the time barely understood the way players values went up or down - I also held the Black Widow all season after he was switched to cover centre and watched him drop $150+k -  it was just infuriating to see his price keep going up and other teams enjoy the scores with minimal cost.

Certainly worth the reminder. But I think the reason why there is SO much debate around his selection is precisely because everyone is trying to figure if he will indeed get the minutes, score well and keep his job over the next few weeks.

edit: also buying Leo is buying low. Whether we'll be selling high is the question.

Just realised I can do Amone/Clark to Clifford/Leo

Tempting indeed. Could both technically make 100k or so while one offers useful points right now

I forgot to mention, I also owned Hess that year. Was awesome for fantasy and IRL as a Cows fan.

I also had the Black Widow though iirc. I think he started at almost 600k and almost immediately got punted to centre.

    Win some lose some though.

If someone I respected gave me a spray on my work performance I'd take notice and make some changes. I don't know if this works though on the modern day footballer. eg CS9 to Dfifita.
