Perfect example of why Granville can't do 80, hasn't got the fitness, missed too many tackles and gives away stupid penalties whilst the extra minutes just sap him of his explosivness

Re: Round 1 Match Thread
i know the roosters were missing a few but very impressed by souths
a lot has been made about the players who souths she to get surgess
Stewart & mcqueen, neither set the world on fire last year and paul carter looked unreal yesterday, back to pre DUI form
Luke - big loss, yes but he always missed a bit of footy and mcinness/cook combo looks pretty handy to me
walker - walker has done some great things in the past but i've generally thought he has struggled against the better teams, he was a loss but not one that kills their chances imo
overall, looking back over it, i think surgess is absolutely worth it. luke was the only guy who was a key to their success but buying cook has softened that blow and surgess is a bigger key to that team anyway

Agree about their gains and losses but hard to gauge Souths on what we saw yesterday.
I thought they were specials going into the match against an inexperienced Roosters team that had just traveled back from Pommy Land.
Even with a few big names out, they'll probably touch the Knights up next week too, which should see them rocket into premature premiership favouritism.
I'll be very interested to see how their depth is tested over the few weeks following that.
On Carter, I love how this bloke plays.
Too early to start putting these thoughts in the blokes head but he reeks of Origin.
