Kiwis always get overlooked when it comes to best in position!
Nigel Vagana was one of the best centres in the comp when he was at the dogs.
Five tries in a game wasn't a bad effort.
Toopi was also amazing in his day.
He won centre of the year and at that time was definitely recognised as one of the elite centres of the comp.
I think the big problem for Kiwis is because they don't play Origin, there's limited opportunities for them to create a legacy for themselves outside of club competition. And without that, they simply don't get remembered the same way outside of your extreme exceptions like Benji.
I think about a guy like Bromwich, who for a long time has been accepted as one of the best props in the game. If he was an Aussie, he's probably a guy who plays 20 odd Origins and has a much bigger legacy he'd leave as a result. That's the stage a lot of blokes build their reputation on. You think about Inglis and it's so often his exploits in Origin that come to mind.
