Exactly, it makes you wonder why it has come to this. Not sure about the other states, but we are talking about a festival that completely sold out here only a couple of years ago and tickets were like gold (2013). Then they lost their main "competition" for ticket dollars in BDO.Krump wrote:AJ is a total dickhead. Claremont council fucked that up for everyone by saying the noise was too loud so Maddah threw his toys out of the cot and moved it. Never wanted to come to Perth after that

Perth was never viable. It didn't make a profit even with a sell out.
Claremont was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Which is a shame. Had a lot of good memories at soundwave, the writing was on the wall as soon as it was moved. I travelled to Melbourne last year for it and that was really good, got to see a lot of great side shows as well.
Something will take it's place.

Re: The Music Thread
There is now a MASSIVE hole in the market for opportunity. I guess that's how Soundwave started in Perth in the first place. Hopefully someone with a bit of nous and shit load of cash comes along.

That's so shit if Soundwave crashes.. Seems like bands are getting less and less opportunities in Australia.. We don't even have anything like Rove any more to see new or international bands pop up or even comedians for that matter..
Its all about those shitty djs now that get all the festivals

You'd be surprised mate. Join facebook groups about music events in the area. You'd be surprised how many decent sized bands come through in smaller venues these days. I went and saw Bring Me The Horizon last night in a tiny little venue, holds like 300 people where they were playing and probably another 600 where the bars are. They're a band that are meant to be co-headlining soundwave.
Things like Future music and Stereosonic are just for steroid man purses to show off their chicken legs.

Re: The Music Thread
After a few days of intense speculation, it's now official, Soundwave festival 2016 has been cancelled less than a month before it was due to begin.
Rumours of the festival's demise had been circulating since earlier this week due to a combination of worrying signs. Billed bands NOFX and Bring Me The Horizon made public comments casting doubt on the event, grunge band L7 cancelled on the festival due to "circumstances beyond [the band's] control."
Soundwave boss AJ Maddah also accused ticketing company Eventopia and Ticketek of refusing to release finances from ticket sales to fund the festival and help pay artists booked for the event.

You would think there would be an entrepeneur or entity somewhere right now making initial moves to fill the void in a year or 2.

MONUMENTS just posted that they haven't been paid by Maddah/Soundwave for 2015 yet, on top of the Pumpkins and the other bands saying the same thing.

Really surprised that 2014 lost money like that. Thought it was one of the most well rounded bills.

Maddah is blaming poor ticket sales. He's probably expecting 200k more people than the venue allows. He's a fool.
Could be a good thing though, the bands that have committed have said they want to do shows still.
