Is it just a case of need a hooker who plays rd17 and does what it says on the box? Or a case of hoping for former pedigree to shine through, despite a 12 game 2022 sample to the contrary?
After a slow start to the year he has built to a solid mid 50s average
He is $180k cheaper than Cook and plays more games. Hindsight maybe Starling to Robson last week would have been a better trade.

The same argument goes for B.Brailey. But same score average for cheaper.

As you say most of the starting team is decent, and you are starting to run low on trades (and cash). Ilias should probably have been sold last week. Since you didn't, you could consider holding him for rd17. His BE is manageable and he's your only half cover for a late out (unless you buy Dylan I suppose) You don't really have the trades to take a punt on another risky cheapie, you've got too many of those already. You don't really have any urgent trade outs, could hold tight? I guess if Savage puts up half decent scores, you could take a punt he makes some decent cash before selling to a rd17 player. Another option is Tago to Bird to free up some funds, again not urgent though.
It really feels like a team that needs to possibly sit back and see how the next couple of weeks play out. I'm not against bold moves, just gotta pick the right moment. But then again, a bold move like Savage (or Mam) can't wait. So in conclusion, I'm no help sorry.
This was mostly my exact thought process haha. Think I might hold for this week then.
Thanks for the advice

Mahoney love based on the fact he averaged 61 last season, extremely slow start for him early this season has lowered his average considerably. Averaging 54 since R5 when he looked out of sorts. Cherry picking, probably
But shown the ability to hit and maintain far higher average than currently going at (48.7)
Brailey currently averaging the same as Mahoney over season (48.5) 4.5 points higher than previous best fantasy season.
I can see the Mahoney love, if he maintains current scoring since R5 then he's underpriced and great second hooker option until end of season. Playing R17 a bonus if he does.
I'd much rather him over Brailey personally as he's shown he can maintain a much higher average. 61 (2021) v 49 (current 2022)

Thoughts on Hastings to D Brown? Should I even bother with it? Anyone else worth having instead?
Pre-trades: 10+4 trades left, $93k bank
Cook
Haas, Ipap, Matto
Angus, RFM
Cleary, Munster
Tago, May
Hynes, Ponga, Ramsey
Cotter, Elliott, MKing, Hastings
Koula, Kiraz, Billy, Vailea
Based on what I've heard about Hastings, I think he is a sell, and Brown has averaged 60 in games where he's played at 5/8 only (so not counting two games at centre and round 1 where he played at centre after Russell got hurt). I am perfectly willing to not have a hooker this week if it means getting Brown over Mahoney, since I think the difference in average will remain significant.
The plan would then be to trade Ponga and one of my cheapies (ideally Billy Smith if I can afford that) to Papy and Kennedy next week, and then hold off until R17.
If that rumour of Gamble having broken his tibia is legit, then I also want to get Mam, so I would need to trade Kiraz to afford it (I'm 19k short of Billy to Mam if I get Brown), but we'll see what comes of that over the coming days.

Personally with that bottom 4 I wouldn't be wasting trades going from Hastings who has shown he can be secondary half gun when fit to Brown for extra cash. Potentially sideways in long run when you are going to need cash for more upgrades later

The problem is his injury, I don't think he'll do as well because of it, and there's every chance he plays a couple more games, leaks all his money (big BE this week) and then decides he can't handle playing through it anymore.
I was considering trading to Mulitalo instead, which would boost my outside backs and leave a decent chunk of change open for getting Papy back with (also would let me go Billy to Mam easily), but Ronnie probably averages around 48-50, while Brown probably averages 55-60 the way they're both going.

I find it near impossible to trade out a bye player who is actually playing the bye. I wouldn't have traded Starling either. In fact I have him and I didn't . Absolutely trading him this week though. I have Cook and Robson though, just trying to determine if Mahoney nice to have or must have. Agree there's a little bit of value there potentially.
