TU: Grab Grant and have two hookers and one trade to deal with injuries
TD: Run the gauntlet and grab Haas instead of Grant. Robson as only hooker and have 1 trade.

I know all that you have posted. So what's the answer ?
Because playing a sport like league and not going a 100%, or holding back because people might get hurt will not result in the game as we know it, or used to know.

    mrbrownstone wrote:

No fair enough mate, definitely wasn't having a go at you specifically, more a rant in response some of the discourse I've seen around on Twitter/articles/chatting to others haha

Genuinely don't know what the solution is, it's a bloody tricky one for all involved. I do think heavily penalising any head contact is the place to start though. Will be a tricky adjustment period, but players will adjust and tackle lower.

My 2 cents is that it's something that fundamentally needs to change with the rules. Current system is too heavily focused on attack so defence does what it can to get tiny advantages. This means tackling high, wrapping the ball up and having 3rd man come in low to put player on their back while the remaining players retreat to get a set defensive line for a slow play the ball. This means incidental head contact in games and training which adds up over time.

So my solution? 2 ways you can attempt to fix it without fundamentally changing the game we are seeing.

Option 1 would be shortening the 10 metres. Going back to 5 metres is probably too extreme but something like 7 or 8 metres gives the line more chance to get set, which means that there is less need to wrap up the ball and slow the ruck. Shorter distance to cover probably means less extreme collisions (less speed at time of impact). In the short term this probably means less points scored as a side effect. In the longer term it probably changes the meta towards bigger bodies like NAS that can "fall forward" for a few extra metres

Option 2 is rewarding legs tackles. Currently if you make a textbook tackle around the legs cutting a guy in half you simply have to roll away and the attacker gets a quick play the ball. You could fix this by letting the tackler get up and get back to marker with a "soft restart" before the attacker is allowed to play the ball. This would eventually lead to more one on one tackles and showcase the real technical tacklers of the game like Jurbo, Tohu and Murray

The problem is that neither of these options remove a tackle like Finucane on Crichton. The suspension feels like punishing the injury (busted ear) rather than the actual incident (fast line speed initiating contact before the ball carrier gets up to speed)

Just had a look and the top (active) team as far as I can tell is in 1442 with a squad value of 14.737 mil.

Have ended up at $13.404 mil, better than I managed last year but probably still a touch below par.

I've only ended up with a team value of $13.881m and yet just ranked outside top 100 (121st)

Courtesy of a horrendous run of trades in early season but seemed to have somehow overcome that

get Clark instead of Grant, Grant hasn't been himself since magic round and Clark has been absolutely killing it since moving to the middle 2 weeks ago.

Is there an indication that he will remain playing 50 mins from the bench? His scoring seems quite unsustainable

He busts tackles from the way he runs, and last week's score was almost entirely from just that (52 of his 58 was in tackles, run metres and tackle busts), and the score the week before was also mostly just those three stats (63 of the 76 points)

I don't see how that's not sustainable, it's not like he's scoring tries or getting assists to boost his score a lot. He seems good for around 1ppm at 50-55 mins which is easily a keeper.

The fact that they've moved Tino to prop to accomodate him is a good sign that they'll keep giving him 50 minutes, and just from the eye test the Titans have looked a lot better with him in the middle and Booth at hooker. They may not be winning games yet but they're much improved from where they were a few weeks ago.

Fuck man really struggling figuring out who to captain in my h2h team in a sudden death game, pretty much even matchup against my opponent but he will probs captain Cook or Murray. I'm tossing up between Cleary and Hynes with left field options being Teddy and Grant. Tough one

If it’s even matchup would just play safe with Cleary/Hynes. Nothing really splits those 2 but maybe Hynes this week with SoS and Cleary unknown halves partnership

I think it has to be Hughes or McInnes. Probably depends if you’re satisfied with McInnes floor when he returns to bench because he doesn’t have ability to really improve ceiling

In a similar boat between McInnes and Ming for trade to Cook. McInnes likely goes back to bench when Finucane returns but if/when LThompson ever returns Ming will likely suffer

    robelgordo wrote:

    Seriously tough question

I think Hughes is likely the worst scorer out of those. Although he could be the best scorer if Munster gets injured.

2nd choice for me is Barnett, because it's hard to see him staying at EDG every game. It's a shame Knights play so late this week so you'll have to make a call early. Suspect he could end up playing lock.

The other two I would keep:
    - McInnes is the new Jurbo and will at least do a consistent job each week. Might also net a few extra points while Finucane is suspended. 45-55 from a 14-17 player is fine.
    - I'd also keep Moses, think he's the best scorer. Since the price doesn't matter would therefore keep

    mrbrownstone wrote:

In order of trade to keep, I'd go: Hughes, McInness, Barnett, Moses.

Much of a muchness between those first three though, Moses probably the only one I'd definitely hold.

    Loomer wrote:

Moses probably. I didn't get Hughes 4 weeks ago to sell before Warriors and Titans games and his 44 avg since I bought not horrendous

I want to keep Barnett this week and hope goes back to scores at edge earlier

    Aardvark Ratnick wrote:

Hard call that, I tend to trade out the one from the shittest team but it doesnt work that way, good luck in the call mate.

    wolfking wrote:

Possibly Hughes, but I'm not feeling Moses for the run home.  But I may need to trade him over Barnett and Tolo so I may be biased.

    Jele wrote:

Depends on if you want to risk with lower floor, higher ceiling guys like Hughes or Moses, over Barnett or McInnes who should be safer?

Barnett for me. Have had him for a few weeks and I'm not impressed... manages to get demerits across pretty much every category. Hughes would be the other - but I'd bet on the Storm, and Hughes, coming good.

Cheers lads! I didn't mean to ask and run, but just super busy lately. Looks like Hughes and Barnett the most popular and indeed were the two I was mostly considering. Decisions, decisions.

Te Maire Martin is poised to quit the Broncos with the reborn Brisbane playmaker in talks with the Warriors as part of a straight-swap transfer deal with whiz-kid Reece Walsh.

News Corp can reveal the Warriors are in the advanced stages of negotiations with Martin and have tabled a three-year deal to help offset the loss of fullback sensation Walsh to the Broncos next season.

Its a tough one indeed mate.  If Barnett was secured a second row spot he'd be fine to hold.  Concerned Jones named at 13 they may swap.    Hughes a mixed bag and banking on the Storm improving.  Moses Im not liking this week against the Panthers, but again we know matchups mean nothing.

I'm a little stuck.  My 2 trade ins are Ted and Haas.

Would anyone use an extra trade to get more cash to trade out Barnett or Lolo over Moses? McInnes the other option but feeling to hold him.  I currently have 5 trades. The extra trade would be Kennedy to Mbye. Or even Barnett/Lolo to Butcher but not feeling that.
