Yeah well put, the whole 'sport is a great equaliser' thing is one of the great myths.

Rugby league might be slightly different (don't know the exact stats), but in a whole bunch of sports where you went to school and your background play a massive part. As with all other walks of life, people from privileged backgrounds have a huuuuuge headstart.

In cricket for example, 63% of players who played international cricket for England, Australia or India in 2020 were privately educated: https://prettyprogressive.com/study-reveals-63-of-international-cricketers-are-privately-educated/

Just one of hundreds examples of massive structural and societal blockers that prevent sport from being anywhere near 'organically equal'.

It's these sort of things that the Manly 7 are protesting actually go some way to redressing that!

Ironic that you tell me to "give it a rest" then continue on about it.

So should I be responding to your posts or not? Who's allowed to share their opinions.

I'll be honest, I didn't have Tom Burgess down as one of the few players to publicly endorse the pride jersey haha, good for him:

"Following Manly’s release of their Round 20 jersey, Rabbitohs forward Thomas Burgess expressed his approval of the Sea Eagles latest jersey on Instagram, suggesting the Rabbitohs follow a similar initiative."

Can I express that companies whose existence relies on mainstream popularity selling rainbow shit is gross and transparent pandering for profit, while also acknowledging that idiots who refuse to wear rainbow shit for religious reasons are even more gross and transparent?

Rugby League is by its very existence, a political sport. It was only created because the working class wanted to get paid for the efforts, which they couldn't do under the amateur rugby union.
Interesting digression - in the early days, professionals were looked down upon, because they had set positions for a scrum and didn't just pack down in any old order. This was against the values of amateurism. Training was also a no-no.
But in "political" stances, we've had ANZAC day games for decades, with special herseys and a ceremony before kick off. The people who allegedly don't like politics in league have never had a problem with this. To some people it might give the impression that it isn't "politics" they are against but support for gay people.

I also get frustrated with people citing "religious" reasons for to wear a pride jersey. This is a sport that plays on Sundays, is heavily promoted by alcohol and gambling companies. Its full of players convicted of domestic violence, and who regularly film themselves having pre-marital sex, often in group situations. Their religious text also prohibits getting tattoos. But support for gay people is where they draw the line? They aren't being asked to become gay, just say that they don't hate people whop are. A cynical person might think its not religious reasons and all, and they just don't actually like gay people.

Give yourself an uppercut mate and while you're at it, think about why you're not in the majority here. Might just be that your opinion is a little naive and old fashioned

I was waiting for the 'TJ Perenara' of the league. Burgess is a good start but no TJ.

Does Robbo sit back in his recliner, with a cup of earl grey and think.....  Fuck this circus I'm resting a few.  Teddy you've had a big year, sit this one out.  You too Angus and Walker.
