Inside NRL HQ: What's that, no more NRL season games left?, likely to play for the Kiwis in the world cup, yeah, I think it's time Jared sat out 4 games

    LOL is that's what's happening?

He should serve banned games for the Roosters.

Anyone with half a brain could see that the lack of consideration of priors and escalation in penalties in the new judiciary model was going to lead to lunatics like JWH running amuck. I mean, JWH has kinda got away with it his whole career even before this more lenient system was introduced. I honestly think he should've been given a 6-12 week breather sometime in the last decade.

But naturally NRL waits until after R25 to crack down on it after a 10+ year career and overreacts.

I do pretty much agree with what the Souths coach was saying post-game though. Someone like Tom Burgess was clumsy but at least he's attempting to make a tackle when he goes high, which is something footy related. The shit JWH, NAS etc. try every week, with head slams, forearms, facials etc. shouldn't be part of the game. It's adding to an already high risk level for brain injuries unnecessarily.

The problem is it needed someone to figure this out as part of a broader strategy, rather than letting him get away with it all season then flipping a switch for finals in a reactionary manner.

But rugby league gonna rugby league.

Apparently that's the deal: "Waerea-Hargreaves will be required to serve his suspension next season or as part of New Zealand's World Cup campaign should he be selected by the Kiwis."

I mean NZ probably don't need him anyway, but it is a bit laughable that now they suddenly decide the guy needs to sit out some weeks.
Of course if the Roosters had won, I'd imagine he would be free to play and serve his suspension after the finals... lest we damage the spectacle...

Without putting a huge amount of thought into it, I think if you do it playing for your club, it should cost your club.
Similarly if you do it for your country it should cost you playing for your country.
I'm not sure where Origin fit's in amongst that lol

Surely Vlandys will just give the fans what they want, and allow JWH to start any suspension in R2 next year

(R1 The Roosters normally play the Rabbitohs, so got to let him play that game for the media hype)

Leave his ban out of the world cup, PVL! Think of the fans! Laughing

In all serious they are no longer hiding the fact that they're picking and choosing when and who to ban and when and it's gonna keep happening until PVL is gone.
Apparently in NSW racing which he also runs - jockeys can choose which meets they're banned from? Laughable.

    Half agree/disagree with this.

To the person being hit in the head and receiving a head injury it's irrelevant if the person had intent or hit them through carelessness, it's still the same outcome.
Both intent to attack the head and carelessness resulting in head impact need to be punished.

Either way, correct your tackling or you should sit out.

Yesterday's game saw some crunching legal tackles that are being overshadowed by the grubbiness and illegal hits that Fox will show no shame in using in their advertisements for the Roosters v Rabbitohs fixture next year.

    Mixer

Iz Kelly up to 82 (77 before?)
    Bremner lost a point
    Cam Murray 63 ---> 67

Think Cleary lost a point too?

Pretty sure Tom is looking at 2/3 and JWH 3/4 (same grading, different charges) so Tom will be sitting out. JWH was 💯 trying to maim someone, lucky for him and them he didn’t succeed.

Just to be clear - I think high shots should be punished, and repeat offenders like Turgess need to face decent bans until they correct techniques.

But I think non-footy grub acts are worse.

Getting away from the head, it annoys me how softly something like a trip is treated (a fine) because it just shouldn't be part of the equation when playing footy.

PVL had a charmed run through COVID but he's starting to discover the difference between running something like horse racing and rugby league.

Horse racing is - despite its crazy gambling-related revenues - really a fringe sport outside of a few weeks of the year, and even then that's more about getting pissed and being seen in a pretty dress or suit than the sport itself. It is an island he can run how he pleases - whatever he decides for Racing NSW has little impact outside Racing NSW.

Rugby league is a sport that has credible mainstream interest, and decisions affect things beyond NRL operations - obvious like clubs and states bodies vested interests, but also stuff not on the radar in horse racing like juniors (funding and participation), fans that aren't complete degenerates and will vote with their feet, TV rights, internationals, respectable sponsors that care about their reputation, etc.

He could've left as a hero 6-9 months ago and instead I reckon he goes down in flames in the next 1-2 years.

I don't understand why people think PVL was a 'hero' in the Covid shutdown? They started a week before other codes.. seriously who cares, if that's his one and only achievement..

Looks like the NRL car doesn't have reverse, or a brake. Something tells me PVL is used to getting his own way and doesn't contemplate a Plan B other than 'take my ball and go home'.

Rule changes & interpretation seem to be dictated by whatever has provoked the most outrage the previous round.

The TV rights deal during Covid was among the worst things he's done.

Agree with this and think it should extend to send offs being reserved for non rugby league plays

Cleary and Lawton were tackles gone wrong, but ultimately they were trying to play within the rules

Something like Barnett elbowing someone off the ball or JWH/NAS trying to rearrange someones teeth are not within the spirit of the game and need to be stamped out

And according the NRL physio, JWH played thru yesterdays game with a fractured wrist. So his suspension could be served for NZ while injured, maybe. The system works?
