I think those people just must be too embarrassed to admit they actively listen to it. Laughing

Please don’t put Troy Cassar-what’s his name in the same discussion as Luke Coombs.

Country music is very hit/very miss.

Can’t get anything better sitting around a fire smashing cans whilst fishing next to a lake.

You could probably work that out by the fact that we're all accountants who spend our time looking at spreadsheets for our made up footy stats. Its got nothing to do with the fact that we don't know who Peter Coombs is

I dunno who this Tommy Tombs fellow is either, but there's at least a handful of country music fans out there occupying all the pubs in rural towns. Utes, rum and country music is a better creed than the American one though.

Country accountants all drive around in 130k land cruisers, because farmers get every tax concession under the sun, and the farmers make enough money to pay someone else to deal with the paperwork. Which is why every proper rich person in a city, also owns a farm which they rarely visit.

That one TCD did with Briggs....'Shadows' (thats the only one though)

I listen to plenty of 'Alt' Country which is a slightly different genre (Townes Van Zant, Songs : Ohia, Gillian Welch, Calexico, pre sex pest revelations Ryan Adams) and occasionally pick out an old school country song from someone like Johnny Cash or Waylon Jennings.

I am not overly familiar with mainstream American or Aus country which either sounds pretty hokey or like shit FM rock by someone wearing a cowboy hat.

I can't name a single Keith Urban song but I'm pretty sure he falls in the second category.

I have no idea what a kieth urban song sounds like but i always assumed he was kind of 'fake' country.. like a pop version of country that actual country music fans hate. Am I way off?

Like you I also don't think I've ever heard a Keith urban song, but strangely came to that very same conclusion.

I'm quite comfortable putting him in that box and never opening it to find out.

    Couldn’t be more correct.

I still rate it. I just find myself skipping a lot of Spotify.

Keith makes the cut amongst fans. Very Americanised country rock, but that's popular here and there. A couple of songs aren't bad if you're in a pub somewhere on the weekend or a BNS Ball.

Some country rock is good in the drunken dancing party atmosphere where you're surrounded by a bunch of cowboys and cowgirls. Check out your local rodeo and stick around after.

Besides a bunch of Paul Kelly songs (who's more blues rock imo, but they claim him).. I can get on board with stuff like Dirt by Lee Kernaghan and This is How We Roll by Florida Georgia Line.

But it's a broad genre so even southern rock classics like Copperhead Road, Wanted Dead or Alive, Jolene etc. qualify.

Don't know if anyone saw the presser earlier in the week but it was the biggest staged event I think I've seen in Gallen's boxing career and that's saying something.

As for country music I don't mind a bit of it but more country-folk than pure country.

7 Mary is pretty country/country rock and they're probably one of my favourite old bands.
Miley's newer stuff isn't as country but people are turned off by the name. Her covers of Edge of 17, Zombie and Heart of Glass are fantastic.
One of my friends plays country-folk out of Nashville and has won folk album of the year in NZ in the past but some of their stuff is more country than folk and I can't turn my nose up at that.

    ... and where are Hannant's 19 kids?

EDIT: Hahah on queue one of his kids is in the ring at the end Laughing

Loads of Springsteen would be country-rock, surely?

ZZ Top? Fucken love La Grange
    Jimmy Barnes/Cold Chisel
    John Mellencamp
    Sheryl Crow
    Neil Young
    Tom Petty

    all country enough.
