Just as an aside, it works a lot better in the Sportsdeck ALeague/EPL comps

There, AE comes only from the same position.
So its not a bad tactic to have a deliberately non-playing keeper that you always start.
Means they are available for VC loops (if they play late enough in the round)

But even without that, it means that your keeper will only sub in as AE if they get a positive score. Its basically insurance against copping a negative if your keeper gets sent off or concedes too many
goals. (and you have to be careful and make sure your non-playing keeper doesn't suddenly get subbed in himself to ruin things)

Both SC and SPortsdeck have the same loop

Put the VC on someone who plays earlier in the round.

If they kill it, put a non-player into your starting team and make them captain. Your VC will then get doubled.
Downside is that you have to sub someone out of your 17 to get the red dot as captain, and they'll be replaced by an AE - lowest positive score out of all your NPRs. So in order to be effective you need either a massive score from your VC, or to be very confident that your lowest NPR score isn't all that bad.

ah thanks, too early in the season  for me, with  too many questionable NPRs like Doorey and Preston

Here's an article with a couple of scenario's; (which illustrates both the benefit and pitfalls of it)
    https://scplaybook.com.au/2020/05/27/how-to-utilise-the-vice-captain-loophole/

I only played SC for the first time last year, but it seems that in SC it's worth having a free shot at the VC - on an outside back/half etc where they might get a couple of try's and score a 140+ then you'd probably loop. A 100 and you'd probably just trust your preferred C to get close.

I'm pissing off cleary to much money for mediocre scores plus the bye next week. At least I didn't captain him like I did last week

Yeah, I didn’t captain him in anything but Fantasy. Annoying I was testicle-less for Fantasy, but hoping it pays off elsewhere. I don’t want to trade him out because you’ll just bring him back later, granted, and I guess is the point, about $100-$200k cheaper, the way he’s going.

I’ll admit that if Hynes is back I’m going to be very tempted to pivot to the more reliable and consistent of the two.

Looks like a few of us avoided the Cleary C trap. I thought it would be a POD and I'd make inroads up the ladder. Still could be in the leagues I guess and we can cement our top spots.

I've also got WL in 2 leagues this week and he put the C on Cleary - SUCK IT !!

How much did Payne Haas rise when he became a starter?

Nathan Cleary started with a bang too when he first hit first grade
