You would select him with a 32 average at halfback in full games (where he wasn't hooked, scoring -3), over Boyd who is also a really handy dual HOK for $50k more, average 47?

2 guys that most jumped on last season but confirmed they will never be fantasy relevant are Ilias and Taaffe. Should be on everyone's never again list.

Writing off a young guy who, apart from one game, was getting better and better all season and has excellent job security playing in a good team seems slightly shortsighted? He might not set the world on fire again this season but he's going to have a whole extra preseason of size and defensive work. Only has to average 40 to make his 150k. Also has a great bye schedule and plays r13. Could do a lot worse.

This is what appeals to me, he only has to hold his own and allows me to go bigger in the tricky centre position, not picking some rooky centre and crossing my fingers.

This was my team on the 29th Jan. Despite me telling myself that I would leave it alone until TLT.

    Hodgson
    Murray Haas Cheese
    Penrith Edge Storm Edge
    Cleary Hastings
    Thompson HTF
    Talau Miller CNK

    TMM Gilbert Hopgood Boyd
    Gennings Alamoti Perham Doorey

    65K ITB

Well, I'm a hopeless case and I've been tinkering... Is it better? I think so...

    Cleary Burton

I will be having a close look at him when I decide to get serious about putting a team together.....strong team, good bye schedule, 2nd year, guaranteed spot etc etc, all of those things add up to an improved result. As has been noted, he doesn't have to shoot the lights out he just has to get better.

While someone like Tanah Boyd is only $50k more and has DPP, the risk associated with Holbrook fucking around with his spine (or even getting the arse) is much higher.

Not saying I'm going to pick him but I'm not going to dismiss him either.....hopefully he has had some intensive long range kicking coaching in the off season Very Happy

    .

Only teamlist ive looked at are the broncos and theyve named a pretty strong team (given players available this week) apart from the obvious eg reynolds/capewell and a few rewards for playing well last week

Assume they have one other trial after this one? Cbf looking

    Edit actually i dunno.

I'd be interested in Ilias if it wasn't for Souths' draw, where attacking stats might be limited. He improved a lot towards the end of the season, was posting 50s in the play-offs, and had a good World Cup.

Definitely not one to write off, but black book rather than start for mine.

Just wrote up my 2023 team tracker which is linked in my profile, where I explain my team structure and rationale.

Spending big on high end MID and HLF with value, going really cheap with value in EDG, CTR and WFB, to be able to afford the high end MIDs.

    Nice team,

Can't really get behind Tino - think he's a rung well below the top tier of Haas/Yeo/Murray/Cotter/Tapine - he also played prop with similar mins in 2021 and was no where near 60 average (averages at his price) and also has early bye, honestly more of a late season pick up after Origin as last bye is R16

Everyone complaining about distinct lack of centre options! Zac Cini named at centre! No more silly than picking Illias, with the draw from hell over Boyd as your cheap half!

My team is done. The only bye round issue is Rd 3, which no doubt most people will have anyway, right up to the Rd 13 nightmare. Not sure if there is 13 players I want from that round. I probably have 8 currently for Rd 13 already! What could possibly go wrong?

I think Laurie (Tigers FB) was in as a FRF a couple of years ago (Supercoach I think) but alas he never played that year as was still at Penrith.

What are we reading into Chan starting and Katoa bench for the Storm (with Loiero and Sims not named)?

Fond memories of SST's first year as a WFB/2RF where he was a bench middle with an insane PPM.

He played 5 games at prop last season, scoring < 60 in just 1 of those games (a 49). His game has really grown and he was on fire when he switched positions at the end of last season. He has kept big minutes, and in the new prop role is a primary ball carrier (187m per game) and with that has added an offload that wasn't there when he last played prop (1.8 per game vs 0.1 per game) and busts tackles. Had massive scores just from a huge work rate, not relying on any tries. He has been playing like Carrigan, but doesn't have a Haas in the team competing for minutes and is the Captain, so will stay on the field for big minutes.

Yeah, probably. Although I *am* reading into it that Loiero will be first choice (unless he's injured, who knows with Storm?). Sims we obviously still have no idea whether he'll be playing second row or lock.

40 mins each to see who partners Loiero. Sims to play in the middle?
