i rekon if you take 150 odd thousand people or however many people play, there's going to be a fair few who manage to go the majority of the season missing hias and major injuries and captaincy fizzers etc. etc. just out of pure luck. i think you pretty much need to be in this group or at least tending towards it comparatively to the rest of the competition to take the thing out. then you need to outplay the small minority of your competitors in this small fortunate sample each season through skill. getting the luck to be in that selection of players in the first place is the hard part. i rekon i've had a genuine chance to do really well and be in that selection maybe twice in 15+ attempts/seasons in regards to the injury cards i've been dealt throughout the season. of course skill can make the final standing not as bad as it could otherwise be when you cop those horror runs and will always improve your rank, but if we are talking about being right at the pointy end (top 100 or so)...its a huge factor.

i rekon its about 40 luck 60 skill. would go 30% luck or less if they bought in a rule to lessen the effect of hia's. i think bringing down that percentage is something they should be working harder to do and there's a lot of potential ways they could do this that are still untapped. at least for me, it really stinks when you have those seasons when you knows its pretty much impossible to be at the real pointy end as soon as a month or 2 into the comp through sheer volume of bad luck injuries/copped. its a long time to wait for a fresh slate to hope you have better luck the next year.
