Isn't rugby union both embarrassed and worried at the same time, the fact they have to poach for established players from other codes.
I know younger players are often poached prior to being  established in either code, but what does it say about rugby union grassroots that they need to grab rugby leagues established stars (Sailor, Rogers, Loti, Suaalii - just a couple of the top) to fill out the Wallabies squad.

From what I hear, the layers/grassroots doesnt exist for the code, as the quality at the Uni level is falling in Oz and its just about the prestige of going to one of the shiny Uni/schools.

Union had their chance in Aus

Went professional the same time RL was in shambles due to SL war, big groundswell of support and cash culminating in hosting 2003 WC. Instead of restructuring the sport to grow from grassroots they’ve maintained the traditional class based pathways and squandered the cash.

Aware guys like Suallii have played both - typically league first, then get a scholarship to a private school to play Union - but after that the initial decision is pretty easy as an 18yo player in Sydney. One sport has a clear pathway from junior reps to reserve grade/dev contract to NRL. The other has 7 elite private schools with scholarships, then suburban semi-professional clubs (pretty much all in north and east Sydney), then super rugby. If you want to develop as a footy player, you would choose RL 99/100 rather than fucking about with club rugby. The next contract, sure, take the money and run.

Wallabies are apparently after NAS as well.

    Good point.

This 100%, Rugby is always going to struggle to sign up someone wanted in both codes coming out of school.

The NRL`s pathways are far superior.

Then they are going to pay triple the money to lure these guys they could of had for triple the money to go back to union.

In my opinion union more fun to play but league way more fun to watch

Easier to convince the young kids into union I reckon. Playing in the back 3 and not having to scoot 20 times a game at a brick wall defensive line? Sign me up

Agree with this. Played Union growing up and absolutely loved it.
I struggle to watch much Union now outside of AB's and internationals. I'd much prefer a random NRL matchup than have to watch Waratahs vs Fiji Drua (no disrespect to those sides).

Need to move on from Doorey, Trindall, HSS

Then also have Carty,  Hopgood, Ilias, Sutton, Loiero, E. Katoa.

Oh and Tedesco injured.. so I need to trade as I have 4 out on the bench and only $14k in the bank

Just start again fresh next year

Only if you are there next year

If you don’t own IKatoa is he a better trade in than KNik? KNik has a shelf life whereas Katoa should be there all year pending form drop off or injury?

Ponga is eyeing a R8 return source Fox Sports. Hard to resist at 400s, but would miss 10,13,14,16,19 if he’s picked for Origin

Yeah, it’s faster cash versus likely later trading. Depends what you want.

Looking at 2 options to get Cleary this week:

Option1: Mitchell > Cleary (means playing Warbrick at WFB3, but keeps Carty)
Option2: Carty + Trindall > Cleary + KNik (Warbrick will go into a loop with either KNik or IKat)

Option 1 saves a trade, but option 2 lets me hold Mitchell (not sure if that's good or bad)

I would go option 2, Trellmit is due for a big one. Just look at what he did to the Bulldogs last year.

Mainly after cash at the moment. Don’t have any need to play them in the 17.

Considering probably dropping Sutton at this stage as he’s the least likely to make money

    Carrigan - D.Brown this week

    - Up against Tigers who's defence is putrid
    - he's got Lane back with him
    - Solid Base
    - Super easy draw coming up

I don’t think he makes it honestly. I know he always absolutely kills it at origin but it’ll be hard for them to not pick Walsh

What is this Union you speak of?

My northen English upbringing means coal, Tetley Bitter, and Rugby League flow through my veins! Union is played by rich kids down south. Despite living in Crusader Country I've never been to a union match.
