Yeah, this is how it is.

As I've said before if the club wanted to move someone on before the end of their contract it usually happens. Don't feel sorry for clubs, if the shoe was on the other foot the Dragons would be trying to get him in the door (if they could locate the door).

While I'm not entirely comfortable with a tier 1 player shifting to a club competing at the top of the league mid season, the NRL has created this situation for a reason so I don't hold either the clubs involved or the players responsible.

There are obviously scenarios where mid season switches suit everyone. e.g. Why was one was kicking off about Kerr moving to the Dolphins last week? so what do you do?

Nobody else you can trade for Simpkin?

Need the cash to afford Blore who is the cheapest EDGE I'm happy with. Without that trade I'd be forced to grab probably a 30 point edge

FWIW I'm not really annoyed by Hunt personally, as I take the view clubs will always look to do the same in reverse.

More the system needs some guardrails.

Players moving mid-club on deals that don't go beyond the current season is obviously a terrible look that does nothing but alienate fans, especially those already suffering enough (because the traffic is pretty one way, and the competition hasn't been this structurally lopsided since the 1980s).

It would be pretty easy to do something between the reactionary cowboys running the NRL and the all-powerful RLPA that is mutually beneficial here. And in a bunch of other areas.

“Obviously I’ve had some problems with my knees in the past, but this doesn’t really have too much to do with my recent surgeries or injuries," he said.
"It’s tendonitis in the back of my knee, so it’s something to do with load… it’s a little bit sore, I felt alright out there tonight, but I hurt my other knee tonight in my popliteus. It’s hard because my knees feel good, everything around my knees feel good – I don’t know what is letting me down.
“I’ve had my tests… he’s ticked it off that it’s not arthritis, so that’s a good sign. I went and got scans on both my knees in the last two weeks and they came back with nothing relatively to worry about.
"It’s got to be something a bit deeper than what we can actually see. It’s alright sometimes, but when I’m doing back-to-back training sessions, it’s a bit sore. Once I’m warmed up, I’m okay.
"The boys had been playing so well the past month, so I feel like we just didn’t play to the intent they’ve been playing to. I kind of feel like when I come back, we lose games, so maybe I should sit out.
"I take accountability obviously and I like to win, and we haven’t won much with me on the paddock... I don’t want to blame myself."

Thanks Bird for saying this after I trade you in and not anytime while you were on the sidelines for 3 weeks

I wouldn’t mind it as much if the club getting the player had room for the whole salary under the cap. Getting hunt for $200k in a competition that has a finals series is just taking the piss.

$400k in the kitty to spend.
Need an EDG for 17 this week with Hosking out.

TU: Save the $ for Cleary and go with a Blore/Curran type
TD: Spend it to bring in Fifita, worry about Cleary later

Bird was a guy who had 1 injury free game in 7 weeks. Anyone who traded him in sight unseen on his comeback game knew it was a risk.
