Out of curiosity, did anyone watch 100% Footy on Monday night? And apologies if this has been brought up previously, but Gus was saying how TLT means nothing to coaches and that teams are picked a few hours before kick off on the day of the match.
Obviously this doesn't seem to apply to most clubs, but when the Dogs are naming guys in their starting side that broke their hand the week before, probably a decent bet that Doggies team lists, at least, mean very little on a Tuesday.
I didn't watch it but it makes sense that coaches wouldn't care.
I mean by this point most teams have their team pretty much set so its only a few positions here and there. And at certain times eg players making a first grade debut, they'll know in advance so that family etc can make arrangements to see it and you'll hear about presentations etc at training.
When positions are genuinely in doubt its often due to injury in which case TLT is always just going to be a best guess as to someone's fitness.
But for form related changes, why would a coach feel the need to stick to whatever team he picks 4 days before the game. If some guy trains the house down on Wednesday and Thursday, does he have to get told its too late to make his way into the team and he has to wait until next week.
At least we don't have Monday night football anymore when coaches would always just trot out the team that just played when naming a team the next day, which was always going to be a guess at best
