Given his current position is "not in the 17" I hope things change for him.

Hopefully Trent thinks Hopgood should be a 80 minute player.

You'd think it will be the same team named this week. Maybe with Matto back in. Maybe after that Barrett might change things?

My first thought for Parra is to move Hopgood or Matto to 2RF, the other lock, and putting Lane out to pasture.

    Secondly, Hands in over Lussick.

Third, never let Sivo see the field again.

Don’t think it helps his scoring much. Definitely doesn’t help the team. He’ll be too knackered to throw silly offloads worth 4 each!

Hard to see drastic changes tomorrow.

I do think Sivo can go though.

Of course it will help, he can't be throwing hand grenades from the bench!

I predict there will be a drastic change. He’ll actually name Offa to start instead of game day shenanigans

Issue with trading for byes is you run out of trades, and then for the run home you have no trades, and a team full of players who had a good schedule 6 weeks prior.

If you can get final 17 players who also play byes, that is ideal, but better off concentrating on getting a good 17 together

Losing 120 points in each bye round is not a major concern if you get an extra 30 points a week in the other weeks.

Often as well as trades being an issue, cash is, which is why the discount gun shop comes in handy.

Some discount guns will be attractive to everyone - eg Payne Haas will be on everyone's radar after origin, as currently $100k cheaper than David Fifita and arguably a better long term scoring prospect.  Similarly Cameron Murray will be someone to target when he takes the field again, he'll be a bunch cheaper than other options of similar quality.

But if you're low on cash there are often players who are only slightly worse than idea best 17 players, but available at a large discount. Just have to keep your eye out for those.
Generally better to get 2 45 point players than 1 guy who averages 60 next to a 20 point nuffie who doesn't even play every week.

As always the wise Cow sums up the best strategy.
It's no wonder he's up in the mix year in year out.

    Andddddddddd I've caught up

Went away for the night on Saturday, came back yesterday evening. Between last night and tonight have been watching the footy (Watched the Warriors when it was on though)

Was following along the forum as I was watching the games.

I scored 1009 for the week (At least my 2nd 1K+ of the year, perhaps third), overall rank of 5800 exactly. Top score in L8! Shame on everyone who traded me out 6 weeks or so ago Very Happy I'm not sure why but I'm doing "good" this year, in fact this is perhaps my best year ever, this stage of the season I'm normally 10K or smidge higher. I think this year I'm just taking more risks, and so far most are paying off.

Schiller/Talau/Lucas etc, I was on them somewhat "instantly" (Lucas round 1) - Perhaps a small brag, hope it doesn't come across that way, I know my bubble will burst eventually. But sometimes you just have to go with your gut. I have also been VERY lucky and avoided some injuries (Except Cleary, have Hynes but most did as well after Cleary went down). People said they are duds don't buy them, but I just saw something, end of the day only got your self to blame for hitting the trade button.

Got Dom Young last week, yeah he might put up a 20 point stinker this week, but it is what it is, won't be selling him unless he makes lots of $$$

With Armstrong and Lucas on the bye for me this week, my team is very light. My strategy last week was somewhat "Keep the team together, only make necessary trades", and this week I'll probably do the same, perhaps no trades and just take the points hit.

This year it seems like you trade someone in and then out a week later, it's crazy.

Not sure what the point of this point was really. Just trust your gut, if the trade bombs then who cares, just move on. Use the forum for advice, but end of the day it's your choice.

Lomax wanted one of those clauses where he can opt out if Brad Arthur isn’t coach

I hate those but it’s funny to think he requested it at the same time the dudes signing him are trying to ax BA.

Can you still go back on a deal - what’s the cooling off period these days?

He’s leaving a team on the up, where he’s about to become a rep winger, to join a bottom 4 side.

robelgordo wrote:Definitely one of the better coaches. Media seems to have built up this narrative where Parra are underachieving but are the?

Moses a top of tier 2 HB, probably 6-7th best in NRL
    Gutho similar at FB
Both injured anyway, Gutho maybe to the point of being washed, absolutely no depth or cover for either and haven’t for years so not sure that’s totally BAs fault.
Above average FE, way below average HOK
Forwards decent, outside backs eh, again no depth
Massive junior base but like Dogs don’t seem to capitalise on it the way other clubs do

He’s been there awhile so maybe a fresh face in charge helps but Parra are definitely from the Tigers, Dragons school of falling arse backwards into their rare successes, so don’t see this helping much longer term.

Also Barrett seems like a very good assistant coach.

Barret has had a couple of runs at Head coach and each time he's been a stinker - you are correct in that he's a decent enough assistant coach. Head coach is more about player management than technical strategies etc. (although it does help if the Head coach knows League).
Eels issues are based on the boardroom / backroom mess, power plays / infighting etc.
Until they sort this out they will be perennial under-achievers.
BA actually got the team to over-achieve the season they made the GF.
