change the name of your Eevee to either Sparky, Rainer or Pyro to get which ever evolution you want..Jolteon, Vaporeon or Flareon respectively

Yeah I wish I knew all the good tricks. Only started learning them when I was already level 5 or 6. :-/

@filthridden - Got any other tips and tricks like that up your sleeve? Have basically learned everything I know about Pokemon GO from yourself and @Finch.

Wish I knew the best spot in Brissie to pick up rare Pokemon. Travel around the city heaps during the day and over at Southbank now and then but still haven't come across any Pikachu or Eevee. Heard there are a tonne of Eevee at Central Station so might have to make a trip there just for the game as I have no need to catch the train anywhere.

I need to understand the mass evolution lucky egg thing. My son has a lucky egg and I've told him not to evolve anything till I ask me friends what to do. So can someone dumb it down (in steps would be good) for a father who has to explain it to a 7 year old.

Basically catch as many Pidgey, Weedle, Caterpies as he can because they only need 12 candies to evolve (so you get more xp for spending less candies)
stockpile said Pokes along with all your other generic rattatas, drowsees, eevees
ensure you have enough candies of said pokemon to evolve them all
use the magic egg, preferably at a pokestop with a lure down so any pokemon caught also gives double XP
evolve all the pokemon you can

Don't know if it helps you but I found out today that if you turn the AR off while catching, you don't have to aim your phone the right direction. I find it makes it much easier to catch them.
pokevision.com is good at the moment - the "three steps" radar is broken and this is a real-time map showing where pokemon are spawning. Good to see what's near you and get an idea of what's spawning in other places you might head to.
