as i said earlier, if the on field refs just call knock on right away, not a single soul would have really cared because of how it looked, game would have gone on and we likely wouldn't even seen many replays but i do think once it got to the bunker, green lights were the only option

I agree - letting it play on would cause less controversy than calling it back so they just let it play on.

The act of passing makes it a pass - an intentional thing - which he fucked up and turned into a forward pass over the defensive line which he got an advantage of, even if he didnt mean to. Which is why It should have been a turnover.

Just like, when a player goes in to tackle someone and they slip and make a head high tackle. Its not "play on, it was unintentional".
Or if someone unintentionally kicks it out on the full, its not oh he didnt mean to, play on.

You're all over the shop mate.

Bottom line is accidental knock-on's and regathers are allowed per the rules.

Maybe they were unsure but they still have to take a punt as to what happened and whether it was a try or not, knowing full well that the bunker can only overturn an on-field decision.

Whether you agree with the new video ref rules or not, it is forcing the on field ref's to put their tiny little knackers on the line.

    Not at all.
Forward passes over the line of the defence, even if regathered by the passer, are not allowed - intentional or not.
It was an intentional pass - that unintentionally went forward and over the line of the defence and he recovered it.
It's pretty fucking simple but I wouldnt expect a mental midget like you to understand.

    I've...tried....to...stay...out...but...

OK, it was an attempted pass. He got "interfered with", during the action of the pass, which propelled the ball in a different direction than he intended.

Not sure about the laws, but I'd imagine a pass isn't a pass until it's a pass, right?? ie: until the ball leaves the players hands.

I see it as the ball being dislodged during a tackle, no matter what his intention was (it was obviously to pass the ball!). Which should get treated the same as any other ball lost in a tackle: it's a knock on if it goes forward, and HITS THE GROUND, or ANOTHER PLAYER.

In summary - he went to pass; couldn't complete the pass due to the tackle; the ball was lost forward; he regathered legally.

Can I have Archers job yet?

But its not dislodged by the tackler either. He loses it before the tackler touches him.
They showed a view from front on on 360 - and it literally looks like he taps it forward over the defensive line on purpose.
I cant find the footage but WOW it looked bad.
He loses it when he is passing then reacts by tapping it up, the ball goes over the defence and he regathers it. If someone can find the front view and post it here, have another look and tell me what you think.

Clearly the fact there is so much discussion either way shows that it certainly wasn't a howler and is actually a genuine 50/50

Honestly, if you can find the front on footage and watch it, it looks like he loses it then deliberately taps it up over the line.

Its Just a reaction thing, but thats what it looks like.

Agreed. Clearly a fumble/regather. Play on, fair try.

Honeysett called it too early I think but I'm now prepared to say the last horse has finally crossed the finish line.

You're the only one that thinks that way, now that's not to say that means you're wrong but just because you're different doesn't mean you're useful.

Bill Harrigan, Johns, all the commentators.

It even has the front on footage of it. The more I see that angle the more I think its a deliberate tap forward over the defensive line. Loses the ball while passing it, instinctively reacts and taps it forward, up and over the defensive line, re-gathers and they score.

Mary has a good quote in that article too.
"So you pass it into your own hand and the ball goes forward and you regather that's acceptable...work that one out for me please."
