He can't put together a good, solid 80 minute display but then will wow you with one piece of excellence that almost makes you forget the other 79 and a half minutes. Also, the way he entered the melees was just so unnecessary.

James Roberts seems like a trouble.

absolutely... totally agree.
The guy is obviously a classy player when on, and can be a match winner - but far out far out he goes missing a lot.

That's the role of that sort of player though sometimes, as long as they're not making errors. You want the Ferrari to be fresh for a couple of big plays rather than the Landcruiser that does 20 okay plays. Same with someone like Taumololo. He's the Dally M winner on the back of 20 good 40 minute efforts last season. Get him on the field for 80 minutes and he's probably a much less dangerous player.
If they want an involved centre they you might as well have Ewan Aitken. The key is to make sure not all your backline is that sort of player though. Having a winger or two who'll make 15 hitups a game balances it nicely.
To be honest I've never noticed a lack of workload. He seems to take as many hitups after a kick or from dummy half as you'd expect. I think sometimes the commentators go a bit overboard because of what he can do. Whenever the good teams are struggling you'll hear them say something like "Roberts/Jennings/Barba need to come in and get more involved if they're to get back into the match". They never say "Kahu/Feki needs to get involved more". Generally when those guys are quiet it's because they're forwards are getting beaten. What's the use of those guys being the hit up guys? I want Thaiday, Blair, McGuire etc doing that.

or its because those guys are generally pretty well involved in the match, they dont expect feki to come in step someone/hit a hole and run the length. Its expected of someone like roberts.
roberts prob makes as many handling errors as those guys anyway (just a guess) because he is trying to score on every play, not work towards a try
For a long time, guys like hodges and gaz rarely got the ball in good space - so they had to go looking for it from dummy half.
Roberts does that a little, but not enough IMO

2016 Stats from NRL.com:
James Roberts - 25 Games
55 Dummy Half Runs - 18th in comp, 11 of whom are hookers and there are no other full-time centres above him (Nofo, Peachey and Hoppa Jr played a little centre but mainly other positions).
273 All Runs - Only full time centres with more are Leilua, Bird, Gagai, Aitken, Linnett
13 Errors - 110th most in the comp
in comparison to the guys that I used as an example
Jordan Kahu - 20 Games, 14 Dummy Half Runs, 209 All Runs, 11 Errors
Sosaia Feki - 24 Games, 16 Dummy Half Runs, 248 All Runs, 23 Errors
Personally, looking at those stats, if you said without naming names that a guy had the most dummy half runs of all centres in the comp, and the 6th most runs of all centres (where two of those in Gagai and Aitken played some matches at Fullback or Wing) I don't think you'd complain about his workrate.

For starters, you are comparing a centre to a full time winger and a guy who played most of the season on the wing outside of roberts...
Peachy played centre pretty much all year too.
Ok, so according to those stats - he looks like he has a decent work rate.
I also find it odd that a winger doesnt average even 1 dummy half run a game.

Yep me too. At a guess I'd say it's because the usual Broncos play on tackles 1 & 2 are:
1. Kick to Boyd who either hands off to Kahu or Oates. Boyd goes to dummy half and passes it to the other winger.
2. Kick to Kahu who gets tackled so no opportunity for a dummy half run.
3. Kick to Oates who gets tackled. Boyd to half who passes it to Kahu or Alex Glenn.
4. Roberts pushes Kahu out of dummy half and goes for a run himself.

Yeah every team would be so different.
With a side like the bronco's, teams figured out Oates struggles catching and returning the ball so they started kicking it to him.
When it went to the other side, he still isnt the kind of winger that does dummy half runs, he does hitups not dhr

Lodge recently returned to rugby league with Broncos feeder club Redcliffe and was hopeful of a return to the NRL with the Broncos at some stage in 2017.
Speaking at NRL’s season launch, Greenberg scuppered those plans but stopped short of declaring Lodge’s NRL dream over.
"We've had some applications around his re-entry to a training program," Greenberg said.
"We're going to consider those, but in the short-term no (he won't have a contract registered in 2017)."

And so they shouldnt.
Give him a few years working in construction and playing park footy - if he doesnt fuck up again then consider registering a contract. The bloke is a fucking time bomb.

Don't want him. Kid can obviously play, but not worth the publicity IMO.

Ah fair enough. It just seems like he has no control if he cant even be around alcohol. I thought being there and not drinking would be better PR

I am going to apologise in advance for being so cynical, but I hope he is genuinely being proactive in helping himself.
