First game back after injury after being back training in the second row all preseason. Poor call after 1 gameMearcats wrote:And here we go back to the "last year such and such was good" convo.
Last year I was 31. Last year I handled getting shit faced a lot better. Last year the Sharks won the premiership. All things that will never happen this year. LOL

SO if Widdop is injured and will have a week or so break, Here's hoping a fit Jai Field can get some minutes. Might help him with a bit of first grade experience for when the Dragons lose some SOO players.
Might justify my picking him at the start of the season.

Panthers have been pretty mediocre this year, they were pretty special last year, Carty been injured for a while no coincidence?Spectre wrote:Cartwright shouldn't even be in the 17

Oh by no means am I saying never, I said this a week or two ago about RTS. It just seems that all the time we think that someone who was once a gun will continue to be so. I would argue that you cannot base a players merits on their last season. Fifita is a great example this year.
The best thing we can do is bite the bullet on a player when they get going on the roll or take a risk. Sure, the extent of that risk is somewhat mitigated by the fact that said player has been a gun in the past but to think that'll he'll be a great buy in the next few weeks based of last seasons stats when he's shown absolutely nothing to substantiate that this year is a bit silly IMO

Just had a quick read up on him.
Has played the last week or two in ISP and scored a double in the last outing.
Couple of weeks ago, McGregor was still considering him a long term option in FB if Dugan goes.
So he still looks to be on the radar.

Think the difference here is clearly in our personalities mate. You're obviously prepared to give people/players chances and probs hang onto them for far too long, I on the other hand am a ruthless khunt with that!

Re: 2017 NRL.com Fantasy thread part 35
You have to expect scores like carty produced last week because he is a 20 floor 80 ceiling player, so I don't understand after 1 game and returning from injury the he may never get to where he was again call. You are right though he might not reach the same as last year but after producing a seasons worth of fantasy data it's a lot safer to assume he will return to fantasy form.Mearcats wrote:

Re: 2017 NRL.com Fantasy thread part 35
I understand that we pick people based on history (Smith has forever been good, CP13, PG13 etc) at the beginning of the season but I just feel post that I'm only gonna pull the trigger based on your merits and performances THIS year. I means I miss picking up the occasionally player that goes gangbusters early but I also don't get jagged with a dud like Aubbs 2K14-16
Funnily enough, I'd have no hesitation getting Aubbs this year as his performances have justified it

I said it may open up a spot for him, he could well miss out being down in the pecking order but the way he is playing he could well challenge for the spot.

For sure. My argument isn't that he's not capable nor that it isn't likely to happen just that nothing that he has done yet would justify it for me. I would prefer someone far more consistent for a bit more money that someone that erratic.
Now he may turn around and hit a vein of form (and I'm more than happy for that to happen) and if people jump on him then I would understand that entirely. His stats have definitely shown he can do it, I'm just questioning the intelligence of doing so before he shows that he will again.

Get in Vaughan, and maybe I do need to make another trade if Field is in?

Couldn't agree more Refs. You would expect him to come good (just as I expect Carty to improve) but would you grab him before he does so? Not instilling a great deal of confidence IMO
