Re: 2017 NRL.com Fantasy thread part 37
To touch a little more on bye planning the majority of fantasy players don't consider it. Even if you do a little by getting a few bye friendly guns(Surgess, Walker, Gallen etc) you will still make up ground on teams stacked with origin players. I personally will be making some "sideways" trades to players with better byes. EG after round 12 I will be trying to go Whitehead to JDB. Whitehead will have made most of his cash back and JDB will only have 1 bye left essentially giving up 1 trade for 1 extra game and the extra points JDB will score over Whitehead in the other games. The timing of when to purchase guns is a huge factor aswell

After updates I should be sitting on 829 up about 1200 spots on last week. Seems above a lot of scores I've seen floating around which is nice after banking two trades

I say it every week but I'm honestly surprised I maintain my ranking with the team I have. The disadvantage of so many people profiting off Ponga hasn't handicapped me too much.
Good on you mate, so close to a double digit ranking.

He was on my trade in list before this round and although there were rumours of him being sick, starting from the bench is a concern.
Maybe wait to see where he starts next round before making a move.

Okay you find me a player who says they intentionally keep the ball in the field of play from a penalty and I'll put my hand up and apologise.
There have been plenty of examples. Jack Gibson was famous for his innovative use of the penalty kick. He would line players up on the opposite side of the goal posts and have the kicker intentionally miss across the posts for those players to maraud their way to it. Both at Easts and Parra. Ditto Gus Gould at the Bulldogs. You would be too young to remember. And it is and was called a ' free kick'.

He plays last next round, unfortunately. If he's on the bench, the price gap between him and low BE Munster or Nathan Brown could increase by 60-70k. Even if Aubs starts, with his high BE, the gap can go up by 50k.
I can go Aubbs to Munster in one trade at the moment adter this week's changes, leaving TTurbo and SMat in centres. Not happy about SMat either, but think the trade has to be made.
Weirdly, can understand him being on trade-in list for others as he'll be bargain Origin cover after a couple more price drops before playing 80 for Cordner Rnd 12 and 18.

Thinking about my rd10 trades already although I need to slow down a bit there. Ponga to Munster if Coote is back
I did want Cody for his byes but he's going backwards at the moment and Munster gunning it.
What does everyone think?
Yep - Munster before Walker is the priority for me. We were fortunate to see a couple of games at 5/8 with a high BE to see how his scores would go. I was worried that he didn't look that slick in the trials.
But he's making up for any of that with a big increase in tackle base stats, so the high scores seem valid.
I'm Lamb to Munster and perhaps Cotric to Walker later on for the DPP options.

Thajks mate, i took a punt that Cronk would pick up this year playing with a running five-eighth (Munster/Jacks over Green). Hasnt really worked out - he's just not a top tier fantasy half. Oh well, was planning on trading him out come Origin time anyway...

Well sorry to say Rabs but we don't refer to penalties as free kicks, and the examples you have given are from a long time ago. We are talking about the here and now, and those plays aren't even legal.

The team taking the penalty goal have to be inside their own half when the kick is being taken. Broncos took the piss out of that rule last week and the refs allowed it because the game was over

It's a free kick and you can do whatever you want with it. Take a tap. Take a kick for goal. If you wanted to, you could take a midfield bomb and there isn't anything in the rules to say otherwise.

Bullshit. You don't know what you're talking about. You only need to be behind the kicker. "Inside their own half" ...just lol.
