Johnny B Goode wrote:I'll say this about the bye rounds, you can truly get right up there at the top if you plan well enough for them. In 2015 I went bye round crazy and I got as high as 85 in overall during a very competitive time of the year. I finished in the top 400 at the end of the year AND I never once owned RTS or Cam Smith AND I carried James Maloney as a 3rd half all year.
However it all came crashing down when I ran out of trades and by years end I literally had to make do with Jake Marketo and Nathan Ross as part of my scoring 17 because I literally had nobody else left. I'd spent so much time buying mid-rangers like Tom Burgess and Alex Johnston for the byes who I then had to sell again.
This year I've really not gone to too much effort to plan for them because I've seen what a pointless endeavour it can be. I'll look to make a few trades to strengthen my team over those rounds but my objective for Fantasy is and always will be to rank as high as I possibly can using as many POD's as I can. I mean I already hardly get excited for RTS doing anything because everyone else rides his scores with you.
Warriors wrote:Last year I didn't really plan for byes. Didn't trade out any keepers over the bye round, due to low trades and not 100% sure I would leave enough money to get them back in. I held teddy, JDB through injuries. But what got me up to 24th was whilst everyone was focusing on the big byes 12,15 and 18th I made sure I had gun 17s for all the other rounds, making up what I lost in the other ones. And my gun back five. I started with Croker, picked up BJ in about round 5 and then picked up mansour and rapana after origin. All these guys averaged between 50-60 to finish the year from memory. It was the Joseph, jarrod, Jordan, josh show

A few misfiring guns that were brought in specifically for the byes and an injury can stifle any prethought plans. I'm hoping i can maintain my possy right through so i dont lose any momentum and/or positive feeling. I checked the points overall and i am only 233 points off first. If this blows out i will feel like any chance of a 'run' is gone.
I think i am going to stay away from Tolman as well, shifting McGuire and/or Smith and bringin in Norman/Browne and an undecided Hooker switch will be the focus.
Here's hoping.

I lot of bye planning comes down to luck also.
White Lightning wrote:Currently I will have these players:
Round 12 = 16
Round 13 = 19
Round 15 = 13 - will use 2 trades to get 15
Round 16 = 15 - will use 2 trades to get 17
Round 18 = 13 - will use 2 trades to get 15
Round 19 = 15 - will use 2 trades to get 15
This will leave me with 7 trades fro round 20.
I'm currently 334 points off first & I think my player numbers for the bye rounds are are good so with 7 trades left from round 20 I should be in reasonable shape.

I once made up a plan like this. The instant one player gets suspended or injured, everything just goes out the window and your team collapses like the Knights in the 2nd half.
Clack Bocks wrote:This is the one year i'm actually bye and trade planning. Currently in the 5000s with 23 trades left, if I don't make it to the top 1000 by the end of byes and have more than 5 trades left then I'm not trying this hard again.
Johnny B Goode wrote:This is pretty much what my bye planning looks like for the first round. I'm weary of making trades prematurely as I've been burned by that before but may need more than 3 so we'll see.
Fifita to Nathan Brown. Hopefully free some cash and get a player who will play all the way to 16 while Fifi misses a few.
Burns to John Folau. Will make me a nice 10k lol. Waste of a trade? Maybe but if Jennings plays Origin then I'll take the 60 extra points or so.
Maybe Slater to Cody Walker. Problem there is having the cash to do it. Hopefuly they can bridge the gap a little closer in the next 2 weeks. Or maybe Slater to Aubo if he gets a starting spot back.
Also considering JWal to James Graham. Wallace won't miss much time out but assuming he plays Origin then might be worth a shout if Graham drops enough cash. Getting Sione out may also be a goer, worried for his scores and worried for his health in general too. Either way I don't think he can stay
