This is also a good point, especially if things dont eventuate with Mahoney. It would be a pretty left field backup option but a solid stopgap nonetheless. Perhaps even a preferable option to running Radley on the bench, who is no certainty to be valuable just yet

Can I get some advice on my playing reserves. I'm going primarily for value and 40ish scoring, and am not concerned with backup options for my starting 13:

Mahoney
Whitehead
Stimson
Garner
$137k

I'm tossing up downgrading Matterson to free up more cash to upgrade FRF, WFB, or Bench. Thoughts anyone?

I asked a similar question earlier but didn't get any replies. Most of the guns I've seen in your initial 17s include players such as Fifita, Taupau, SJ and Morgan. Not sure about NZ having any international games during the origin period, but how do you cope with your guns being out with international duty on top of players being unavailable due to byes?

I think Nikora should be a given if he lines up on that edge, so these comments really just pertain to you running the two rookie halves...

I could see rolling the dice with one of Brown or Keighran but would be risky to run both IMO. Hard to mitigate the damage if they both flop, but if one is outside the 17 the blow is less severe (and there is a better chance that at least one of your cows is worthy of your 17 if you only have one spot to replace.

On the other side, if they both gunned it and you had them in, you would be streets ahead of those teams only running one with the money you spent elsewhere. It just depends how conservatively you want to play. I am such a defensive fantasy coach I am running both on my NPRs with only Nikora in my 14-17. And that is why I will never win NRL Fantasy.

I guess it's just about roster management. Pay attention to the schedule of any player you are drafting in and keep one eye a few rounds ahead so you have coverage. The byes are no longer as hard to plan for as they used to be so I am not really even considering them this far out. I actually used to enjoy the preparation required to navigate the old bye schedule. It was a time for fantasy diehards to shine.
